In Warhammer 40,000, a man nearly caused the downfall of the Imperium (and nearly the entire world): Horus Lupercal. A big fan of the franchise wants to build a statue for this traitor and is printing it in parts. The result will be huge.
Who is it about? Horus is perhaps one of the most well-known names in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. After all, the “Horus Heresy” is named after him, in which half of all Primarchs turned against the Emperor and joined the Chaos.
The consequence of the betrayal was the near downfall of the Imperium of Man. The Emperor himself nearly died during the uprising and has been bound to his Golden Throne ever since.
There are countless stories surrounding Horus, the Horus Heresy alone includes over 60 books and in one of the newer series a gigantic Titan faces Horus – in vain. Now a user has been captivated by the fascination and is building a monument for the traitor.
This is the statue: The user Doris, also known as “HammerDoris” or “The Imperial Saint”, considers herself a big fan of Warhammer 40,000. She also does cosplay on the topic and collects minis… and now probably also macros.
On Reddit and Instagram she shares her current project: a life-sized statue of Horus. The Primarch is among the tallest of the super soldiers and was supposed to be about 3.5 meters tall in armor. The statue reflects this:
- The legs alone are said to be about 2.7 meters tall and consist of 594 individual parts.
- The upper body is supposed to add another 226 parts.
- All parts are printed on a 3D printer and then assembled.
- Meanwhile, the statue is supposed to have a low weight; Doris writes: “The feet/boots can be moved easily. I can lift the thighs and place them on top.”
The current challenge is to connect the upper and lower body: “I need to find a secure way to put this part onto the lower half.” In addition, a few “skulls and that Roman skirt thing that he wears as front protection” are still missing.
In the trailer for the Horus Heresy, you can see approximately how big Horus really is:
“I knew that Primarchs are bigger, but I didn’t realize how much”
On Reddit alone, the post received over 15,000 upvotes within two days with over 940 comments in the Warhammer40k subreddit, plus over 21,000 more likes on Instagram.
Apart from jokes about macroplastic and dry remarks that Doris is now probably painting giants instead of minis, size is the most popular topic. Some users wonder if the statue has the canonical size, and yes, it does – which amazes many:
There are some book covers from the Horus Heresy where regular people only reach the waist or just below next to a Primarch […] Obviously, one cannot exactly say whether an image on a book cover represents the canonical size or not, but it is officially published art from Games Workshop.

Regarding the size, many users wonder how to assemble this giant thing at all. Doris explains: outside. There’s no other way – which leads to amused comments that she will soon have a Horus standing in her front yard guarding the house.
Apart from memes and discussions about size, Horus himself is a big topic, since as a loyal citizen of the Imperium you cannot condone someone personally building the traitor.
However, Horus is not entirely to blame for his downfall. Before him, there were already traitors who had fallen to Chaos and led Horus on the path to becoming the champion of the Dark Gods. Particularly one bears the blame: A man in Warhammer 40,000 is responsible for the fact that the two biggest traitors become evil
