Season 4 “gifted” the Call of Duty: Warzone yet another powerful OP weapon that dominated Battle Royale for almost a week – the MG 82. However, a small update on the evening of June 22nd nerfed the LMG behemoth, and more nerfs are expected. MeinMMO shows you the patch notes and the developers’ plans.
What’s happening in CoD? The new Season 4 has been active for a few days and left a big impression. A new vehicle, an event at the start, map changes – with such a lineup, an OP weapon must not be missing. The role of the OP weapon was taken over by the MG 82, the new LMG from the Battle Pass of Season 4.
But the nerf did not take long to arrive. A small update is set to bring the MG 82 back in line and nerfs the damage and control of the light machine gun. We will show you the patch notes, what impact the adjustments have on the LMG, and what the developers are announcing regarding “balancing”.
CoD Warzone: Update 22.06. nerfs MG 82
How is the MG 82 changing? The weapon now deals less damage, and the developers have also adjusted the recoil:
Changes MG 82 – Update June 22
- Maximum base damage reduced from 30 to 29
- Minimum base damage reduced from 28 to 27
- Range of the first damage zone reduced by 20%
- Headshot multiplier reduced from 1.3 to 1.2
- Chest damage multiplier reduced from 1.1 to 1.0
- Limbs multiplier reduced from 1.0 to 0.9
- Vertical and horizontal recoil increased
The MG 82 thus loses its outstanding time-to-kill (TTK), but remains a weapon that can deal significant damage. Previously, its TTK with chest hits was just under 460 milliseconds – without the LMG-typical “Open Bolt Delay”. With the delay, the TTK was 519 milliseconds: both are impressive values. And since the MG 82 was mainly used at long range, the delay played only a minor role.
Now you get a time-to-kill of 584 milliseconds in the first damage zone with chest hits, including the “Open Bolt Delay”. Without delay, you are still around 520 milliseconds, which remains a top value in Warzone. Looking at the damage, the MG 82 is likely to remain among the top weapons in Warzone.
It will be interesting to see the recoil. The developers provide an explanation for the nerf in the patch notes and say that they plan to use the MG 82 as a weapon for short to medium distances. After the current adjustments, however, the recoil remains very vertical and goes almost straight up. At the moment, it is mainly the damage values that the CoD developers want to use to bring the MG 82 back in line.
Currently, it looks like the MG 82 could continue to play a key role in the weapon meta of Season 4. However, how the changes are received by players will have to be seen in the coming days. Our recommended setup for the MG 82 can be found here.
Developers target Nail Gun and Dead Silence
What are the developers announcing regarding balancing? Two things that are also being discussed in the community are the Nail Gun and the field upgrade “Dead Silence”. The developers are entering the discussion and addressing both topics in the patch notes.
The devs suggest that Dead Silence will not disappear from Warzone, as some players wish. The CoD developers are working rather on finding a sensible counter-solution for Dead Silence. However, this is still not confirmed, and the developers do not want to make any promises. But as soon as they get closer to a solution, they will let us know.
Balancing the Nail Gun also seems to be quite complicated. The “tool” is considered a submachine gun in Warzone and should even compete with the strong shotguns at very close ranges. However, reducing damage would make that impossible. It seems more like the developers are looking for a range solution for the Nail Gun. The developers have not yet set a date, but timely changes to the Nail Gun are expected.
What else did the current update change? Overall, there are still 5 bug fixes for the following issues in this small update:
- Gifted Battle Pass was only active after a restart
- Tier skips for a gifted Battle Pass are not functioning correctly
- The killer door in Salt Mine has been fixed
- Issue with the “Red Door” fast travel system when a player was killed during the transition
- Some of the weapon blueprints for the QBZ-83 caused game crashes

Whether the MG 82 is under control with the latest measures remains to be seen. However, the developers’ reaction to the OP weapon within a few days should be positively received by many players and shows that the next nerf is already planned if the current weakening is not enough.
Among the best weapons in Warzone, the MG 82 still belongs. However, the gap to the competition has definitely narrowed.
