The team behind the largest and most popular roleplay servers for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 has recently become part of Rockstar Games.
The roleplay community in the two Rockstar games GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption has been active for years. The two largest multiplayer mods are FiveM (from GTA 5) and RedM (from RDR2) and are developed by the team Cfx.re.
As our colleagues from GameStar reported, the roleplay server for GTA 5 was so popular that it surpassed the original game in player numbers on Steam.
Cfx.re is now officially part of Rockstar Games
On August 11, 2023, Rockstar Games announced the inclusion of the developer team in the company on their website. The announcement states:
We are proud to announce today that Cfx.re – the team behind the largest Rockstar roleplay and creator communities FiveM and RedM – is now officially part of Rockstar Games.

They have followed over the past years how the creative community of their games found new ways to expand GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, especially through roleplay servers.
In order to further support the players’ efforts, they have recently updated the guidelines for mods so that they now officially include the modifications of the roleplay community.
As a reason for why the game company decided to bring the modders on board, Rockstar Games explained:
By collaborating with the Cfx.re team, we will help them find new ways to support this incredible community and improve the services they provide to their developers and players.
We look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks and months

This suggests that Rockstar intends to actively support the modding community in the future and wants to further expand GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 using the roleplay servers.
Cfx.re also commented on the forum about the news and stated that this is a big step for the growth of the community.
They explain that day-to-day operations will continue as usual. With the help of Rockstar, they will focus primarily on further improving the platforms FiveM and RedM.
