Xur has appeared for the first time in Destiny 2. He brings the Merciless – an exotic fusion rifle. Is it worth buying?
Three years ago, Xur first appeared in Destiny. However, in the early days, no one really knew what to make of him. What were the yellow items? And is what he sells even good? In the first week, Xur sold the Red Death – a long time truly fantastic pulse rifle.
And in the second week? There, Xur appeared with the Gjallarhorn. Now a legend, Guardians doubted the usefulness of an exotic weapon in the Heavy slot. Primary and special weapons were considered much more attractive. That the Gjallarhorn would become the most coveted weapon in year 1 of Destiny was something no one thought at the time. It wasn’t until later that the realization struck: “I should have bought that weapon from Xur back then!”
Even though the big secret around Xur is no longer such a big deal, Guardians still look closely, what Xur has to offer and whether it’s useful. And regarding the weapon Merciless – a fusion rifle – it’s worth a second look. We will tell you why!
Merciless – Fusion rifle as a boss killer – Perks
The weapon comes with a large magazine of 8 rounds and a reload time of 900. The best part about this fusion rifle is the intrinsic perk:
- Movement Conservation – On non-lethal hits, the weapon reloads faster until the player gets a kill.
This means: The weapon is a boss killer.
- Furthermore, the weapon has the perk Impetus – Reloading immediately after a kill temporarily increases damage.
When you are in a boss fight, you kill a minor enemy with the fusion rifle, reload, and then unleash everything on the boss. The magazine may empty quickly, but you will have dealt a significant amount of damage.
The major downside of the weapon is the slot it occupies. Power ammo is scarce. Therefore, this weapon does not offer infinite damage potential.
Probably, the Merciless will not reach the cult status of the Gjallarhorn. Bungie won’t allow such an overpowered weapon again. But if the past has taught us anything: The weapons Xur brings in the first weeks are definitely worth buying! They might still become legends.
