With the announcement of The Division 2, many players wondered what actually happened to Massive’s game based on the Avatar film series. Now there are answers.
What happened to Avatar?
Avatar is coming! As Ubisoft announced, work on Avatar is progressing. It is one of the most important and largest brands in the entertainment sector and represents a very significant title for Ubisoft.
Game likely to arrive in time for the 2nd movie
When will the game be released? Avatar is expected to release no earlier than fiscal year 2021, which means a release from April 2020 onward. And that makes sense. Director James Cameron is currently working on four sequels to the film, with the first set to hit theaters at Christmas 2020. It is likely that Ubisoft’s game will incorporate some elements from the film, so releasing significantly before the movie’s premiere wouldn’t make much sense. A release timed with the movie’s release is conceivable, similar to what Electronic Arts did with Star Wars: Battlefront 1 and 2.
Not much is known about the game so far. What exactly Avatar will be as a game is still unclear. It is said to use the same engine as The Division, and Ubisoft Massive is also working with a second team on the title. Therefore, it can be assumed that the gameplay will be somewhat oriented to The Division and likely mix single-player content with MMO elements.
