The gamescom is one of the most important gaming events of the year. Numerous fans flock to Cologne to experience the spectacle on-site. Some use the large event to surprise their partner with a special gesture.
During a joint Twitch stream by Niklot ‘Tolkin’ Stüber and the channel ‘DoktorFroid’, there was a romantic moment that moved the audience and made them applaud: a woman proposed to her partner.
The DoktorFroid streamer Olli was sitting on a small stage having a conversation with Tolkin when Paul (also from DoktorFroid) entered the room. After Paul apologized for interrupting his colleagues’ ongoing conversation, he mentioned a joint photo with a fan.
Paul explained that the fan would like to take a joint photo but didn’t have much time left. Therefore, the participants decided to take the photo live on stage – this was requested by the fan’s partner.
Shortly thereafter, Olli, Paul, Tolkin, and the fan were on stage taking a memorable photo – with their backs to the audience. And while the streamers distracted the unsuspecting man with the joint photo, his partner sneaked into the background.
What happened next? Once the photo was taken, Paul addressed the man and said: “Now for the much more exciting part: Turn around” – and the man turned around.
Of course, the streamers avoided showing the young woman in the photo beforehand. She had secretly snuck behind the quartet and was kneeling, with a small box in hand, waiting for her partner to turn back to her and the audience.
When the moment came and the young woman proposed to her beloved, he said “Yes”. The audience applauded, Olli had goosebumps, and Tolkin also emphasized how sweet he thought it was.
Since the romantic gesture was visible in the streams of Tolkin and DoktorFroid, there is, of course, a clip of the scene that we have included here:
Not the first romantic gesture: Gaming can connect people, that’s no secret. A player used Fallout 76 for a marriage proposal, another player asked the crucial question in Destiny.
As the gamescom showed, more and more gaming events are becoming the stage for touching moments that can change lives. In 2019, a fan used the Smite World Championship for a marriage proposal and in May, a couple got engaged on the stage of the Dota World Championship.
We see that the newly engaged couple is not an isolated case; there are indeed repeated romantic gestures and touching moments at large gaming events.
