In a recent stream, the Twitch streamer Metashi12 recounts an incident from his early days when he was tricked by a viewer and what consequences he has drawn now.
Who is the streamer? Metashi12 has been active on Twitch since at least 2016 and has built a loyal, steadily growing fan base over the years. In the last three months, an average of more than 3,500 viewers tuned into his streams (via Twitchtracker).
He gained particular fame through his streams of the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft, which he has impressively showcased for 6,500 hours on his channel.
Although WoW is the main content of the streamer, the game has often been declared dead:
Even though Metashi12 is now a successful streamer on Twitch, he also had to start small. In a recent stream he talks about the challenges of his beginnings and reports how he was tricked by a viewer in the early phase of his career.
“That was quite a hefty amount”
What did the beginnings look like? Metashi12 speaks about the time when his streams were only followed by about ten viewers on average. According to Sullygnome, this would have been around 2017, so seven to eight years ago. At that time, he had around 5,000 followers.
He explains that there were no gift subs or similar sources of income on Twitch back then, as are common today. Direct donations were the main source of income at that time. But Metashi12 wanted more and looked for creative ways to offer a subscription model similar to that of Twitch partners.
He tells how he eventually discovered a third-party platform where viewers could subscribe. According to his statement, he called these subscriptions “Dream-Subs” and charged 50 euros per month for them. In return, the viewers could choose a game that he then had to play for three hours on stream. “That was quite a hefty amount,” Metashi12 recounts. In fact, there was one viewer who took advantage of this offer.
What compensation did the streamer provide? About this viewer, Metashi12 says: “He made me play really weird stuff. A Playstation 1 game that I had to play with an emulator. It was called Big Rigs. And then he made me play Need for Speed on a Nintendo DS emulator.”
Although he describes the games as very entertaining in the stream, the situation took an unexpected turn: The viewer subsequently withdrew the money. This means that Metashi12 streamed the games as promised but ended up not getting any money for it.
Viewer returns to his streams after all these years
What happened now? About three months ago, that same viewer returned to Metashi12’s stream, now that the streamer is significantly more successful. The viewer wrote in the chat and asked if Metashi12 still remembered him. Metashi confirmed this and immediately took action: The viewer was permanently banned from his channel.
What does it mean to receive a permanent ban? A ban on Twitch means that a user no longer has access to the channel. They cannot watch the stream, write in the chat, or interact with the channel in any other way.
While in this case a viewer tricked the streamer out of his money, there are also examples where it goes the other way around. The English streamer “ItsSlikeR” has taken his viewers and fellow content creators for large sums of money with emotional stories.
