The Twitch streamer DarthMicrotransaction, known for his content about Diablo 4, spoke in a video about the dangers in Alaska and why he wants to move away from there. He says even experienced guides are not immune to these risks.
Which streamer is it about? It is about the Twitch streamer DarthMicrotransaction, also known as DM, who mainly creates content about Diablo 4.
In a video on YouTube, which shows a clip from his stream, he talks about moving away from Alaska. He particularly addresses his life in Alaska and the challenges there.
One point he also mentions is the dangers from certain animal species. He reports that each year many people, especially tourists, according to him, die from moose encounters.
Monsters in fluffy fur
How do these incidents occur? In his video, DM further explains that these situations primarily arise because tourists underestimate Alaska and its wildlife. He says that moose are monsters, “but they don’t look like monsters, rather like cuddly, fluffy dogs.”
As an example, DM tells of a group of tourists he once met on a tour. They were out on snowmobiles in the winter, just in jeans, looking for a moose herd. Later he read in a newspaper article that these tourists had likely had an accident during their endeavor.
He further remarks that many tourists underestimate moose, especially regarding their weight and speed. He shares that even if someone goes full throttle on a snowmobile, the moose can easily catch up with them despite the meter-high snow and would still be significantly faster. Therefore, it often happens that a moose accidentally tramples someone to death.
Does this problem only affect tourists? According to Twitch streamer DM, it does not. In his video, he reports that a friend’s father died on a tour, although he was a trained guide. He emphasizes that one can be as experienced as possible, but the risk of dying is still present.
The American infotainment site HowStuffWorks
discusses in an article whether moose are more dangerous than bears. They conclude that while moose are not fundamentally aggressive, fatal accidents with them occur more frequently. The reason for this is that there are three times as many moose as bears in Alaska, and moose react particularly aggressively when protecting their young.
