The WoW streamer Asmongold wanted to make a statement and give the Horde a wake-up call. But the servers had other plans.
The streamer Asmongold plays together with many other streamers on the Faerlina server in WoW Classic. This alone ensures that the streamers and their fans keep meeting each other, leading to PvP skirmishes. This was also the case this time. However, a problem with the server caused the whole thing to end in a very unfair way.
What happened? Asmongold wanted to complete a quest on “Fray Island.” The island is located in the Barrens, an area more dominated by the Horde. The quest requires Asmongold to endure for a certain duration without dying. To make sure that succeeded, and to “make a statement,” he took several dozen players with him to secure the island.
What happened next? The sheer number of players caused significant lags and delays on the island. Players were standing still, and only every few seconds did something happen. To make sure as many Alliance players survived as possible, Asmongold gave some instructions:
Set all pets to aggressive, make them into pitbulls!
The last seconds of the quest began to count down before the most frustrating thing happened: Asmongold and many other players experienced a disconnect. Apparently, the sheer number of players was too much for the realm, which briefly crashed.
Everyone gone except Asmongold: When logging back into the game, the harsh reality hit: all other Alliance players had vanished, and only Asmongold and the 4 players in his group were left on the island – along with many Horde players. They, of course, made quick work of the streamer and his group.
The other Alliance players reported that they were reset far back to the ship from which they had jumped.
Does Blizzard favor the Horde? A bit frustrated and (probably) not entirely serious, Asmongold reacted to this incident:
If there’s anything you need to know about Blizzard’s favoritism, it is this. This is Blizzard’s favoritism at its worst.
With this, he refers to the fact that players have accused Blizzard for years of favoring the Horde in all aspects of the game.
On the second attempt, by the way, they managed to complete the quest and conquer the island. This time there was no disconnect.
To better handle server load, WoW Classic has opened more new realms again.
The event may have been one of the first major PvP events. Such events will probably happen more often on the Faerlina server in the future, as streamers and their followers meet.
