The popular streamer Ludwig promoted the soft drink Game Fuel from Mountain Dew in his stream on Twitch. However, he accidentally left the ad on, which showed exactly what the advertising deal earned him. Learn the whole story here on MeinMMO.
Who is it about? The streamer Ludwig “ludwig” Ahren is known as a commentator for the fighting game Super Smash Bros. Melee. On Twitch, he is recognized as a popular content creator who plays various games. Among them are the indie hit Among Us or Call of Duty: Cold War.
He has over 800,000 followers and in the “Just Chatting” category, he is currently in second place for the most viewed channels on the platform, according to Twitch Metrics.
These earnings make Ludwig an attractive advertising partner, as the following situation shows.
Streamer shows live that he just earned over 7,000 dollars
What happened? How lucrative advertising for streamers of Ludwig’s scale really is, was shown by an incident on November 18. Here, Ludwig had an active so-called Twitch bounty. These are advertising deals where streamers must showcase specific products in their streams.
In Ludwig’s case, this was the soft drink Game Fuel from Mountain Dew. Ludwig took a sip from his can and raved about how refreshed and “energized” he felt. But suddenly, the chat exploded with astonished statements, and Ludwig was also baffled.
For he had accidentally left the Twitch bounty panel open. And it had just displayed the maximum amount for the bounty: 7,202 US dollars was the sum possible in the bounty.
Ludwig surely did not want to show it, as he stammered in disbelief and said things like “Oh shit!” and “Okay, guys, all good, how are you?” He clearly laughed embarrassed. It is evident that the streamer would have preferred to keep this information to himself.
The viewers were astonished at how much money a streamer could get just for showcasing soft drinks in games like CoD Cold War. Some of the statements can be found here:
- Hey, 7.2K?
- WTF?
- Man, we can see your screen!
- So much money!
- Is it even legal for you to show that?
What exactly are Twitch Bounties? Companies like Mountain Dew can issue so-called bounties on Twitch. Streamers who apply for them and receive an offer must then promote the company’s product in a specific way during their stream and complete given tasks.
In Ludwig’s case, this meant that, due to his accidentally revealed information, he had to play CoD Cold War and promote the benefits of Game Fuel during his session.
Especially impressive Twitch bounties were seen last year in the MOBA League of Legends. The now unfortunately deceased streamer Reckful demonstrated there how one can earn about 8,000 US dollars in advertising rewards via Twitch bounties in just one hour of LoL. Ludwig’s deal seems to fall into a similarly lucrative category.
