The Twitch streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys has come under criticism in recent days after she sold very expensive cookies on Twitch and reacted curtly to criticism about the high price. Now she distances herself in a rather passive-aggressive way from her behavior: She claims to have stooped to the low level of her critics.
Why was Pokimane criticized?
- Pokimane has recently launched a luxury cookie brand: The pieces are very expensive, a 114g pack costs $7.
- Criticism arose because the cookies were apparently not as unique and innovative as implied: They resembled an existing brand. Critics referred to them as “copy & paste cookies.”
- In response to criticism, Pokimane reacted unusually snappishly. She called critics “broke” or told streamer xQc in response to his criticism that he seems to have a personal problem with her.
Pokimane says: She was not the best version of herself
This is what she says now: In an Instagram post from November 28, Pokimane now finds critical words for her own behavior, but also for her critics.
She writes that she has been reflecting over the past few days and realized that she was too fixated on negative things and people, and therefore reacted in a way that did not contribute to being the best version of herself.
She should have known better after all these years in the business, but “shit happens lol.”
In the future, she wants to make an effort to handle such things better and understand that it doesn’t help to stoop to a low level to measure herself against others.
What’s behind this: This sounds like “My mistake was letting myself be dragged down to your low level.”
Even though this sounds a bit arrogant, it fits the brand of Pokimane, who usually always appears calm and composed but seemed to be thrown off by all the criticism here.
Fairly enough, the entire situation did not seem to suit her either. Because she has always emphasized in the past that she doesn’t need the viewers’ money and enough money comes in through advertising deals.
xQc also got a backlash after his cookie criticism, seeming to have a problem with her:
