At gamescom 2022, two influencer scandals caused a stir. This year’s gamescom has so far been comparatively uneventful. However, Twitch streamer Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris (35) did not pass through the fair completely incident-free.
What was the challenge about? During his usually rather calm appearance at gamescom on August 24, 2023, MontanaBlack had his viewers compete in various contests for prizes. In the spiciness contest, participants had to consume increasingly spicy foods.
Those who could not continue or had to vomit were eliminated. The “Hot Chip Challenge” has been making the rounds on Twitch and other platforms for some time. A number of streamers ate the tortilla chip, marketed with 1.8 to 2.2 million Scoville, and shared their reactions live with their viewers.
At gamescom, some content creators now seem to want to turn the tables and let their fans participate in the challenge instead.
Spiciness Challenge after Stomach Surgery: Not a Good Idea
How did the challenge go? The candidates of MontanaBlack’s spiciness challenge held up well. However, one young woman visibly struggled with the spiciness. “The young lady is not feeling well at all. Please focus on the young lady. The camera, please,” announced the Twitch streamer (via Twitch).
Already before the challenge, the participant had admitted to having recently undergone stomach surgery. This raised alarm bells for some spectators. Because very spicy food can cause discomfort even in healthy individuals, it can be an additional strain for someone with a previously affected digestive tract.
“End of the Line” for the Participant
How was the situation handled? The Twitch streamer assured the young woman that she did not have to do anything to prove herself. However, the participant was determined not to go home “empty-handed”.
MontanaBlack and his buddy Marc Gebauer, who accompanied him last year, also discussed a possible consolation prize: “Because I know, if she eats the yellow thing, then it’s end of the line. But actually, we want to see that too.” (via Twitch)
Ultimately, the participant dropped out of the challenge and did not taste the infamous Hot Chip. However, she seemed to quickly regain her composure and was able to smile at the camera again.
Later, MontanaBlack announced that “one of the candidates” who had participated in the spiciness challenge was in the hospital. Reports suggest that this might be the young woman.
While MontanaBlack emphasized that the participants themselves would bear responsibility, he also stated that they would only accept participants who were of legal age “for the sake of conscience” (via TikTok). The current status of the participant is not known.
