The player Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev (22) is considered one of the best CS:GO players in the world; for some, he is even the “greatest Counter-Strike player of all time.” He has now been banned from Twitch and accuses the streaming service of not understanding what he means.
What kind of ban is this? From s1mple’s statements, it seems that he was apparently banned for something he said during the stream. It is likely a ban for “hate speech.” However, there is no specific statement about it.
It will probably be a temporary Twitch ban lasting between 7 and 30 days. However, it is the second temporary ban within just 3 months. A third ban on Twitch would then be permanent.
In any case, the ban is unusual because s1mple rarely streams on Twitch. In the last 30 days, he has only been active on Twitch for 24 hours, not at all in the last 14 days.
S1mple is actually a professional player for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and spends most of his time traveling the world – he streams only rarely. However, when he does stream, he has between 9,000 and 13,000 viewers on average because he is just that good.
Twitch does not understand Russian insults
This is what the streamer is angry about:
“The stupid Twitch does not understand the difference of a word in different contexts. I am tired of streaming on this terrible platform and having to choose the right words every time. If they ban someone for nothing, then these rules should apply to other streamers too.”

S1mple then calls on Twitch to dissolve his partnership.
What does he mean by that? It is not officially known which word it is. But some suspect it is the Russian word “pidor”:
- it can be used once as a homophobic expression like “faggot”
- but also as a general insult like “idiot” or “ass”
In any case, it is a relatively harsh Russian swear word that is likely considered a banned word on Twitch just like some English words.
Who is s1mple? The Ukrainian Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev (22) plays for the CS:GO team “Natus Vincere.” He has been a professional since 2013. In ranking lists concerning Player of the Year for CS:GO, he frequently appears at the top. He was number 1 in 2018.
S1mple competes with the French player ZywOo (Team Vitality) for the title of “best CS:GO player of all time.” The two names are often mentioned in discussions about who is the greatest.
S1mple was also banned last time for using the word “Pidor” when he said it to a friend. He also could not understand the Twitch ban at all, as it was clearly a “friendly banter” for him, not a “hate-filled flame.”
