The 29-year-old Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa has long been one of the most successful female streamers on Twitch. She is known for constantly testing the boundaries of what is allowed. Occasionally, she goes too far and receives a ban, as she has now. However, the ban does not seem to hit her too hard.
What is known about the ban? On July 18, 2023, the ban was announced via the automated Twitter account StreamerBans. For Amouranth, this is already her second ban this year, after she was previously given a mandatory break for one day in May.
After her last ban in October 2021, the streamer actually wanted to behave. So far, neither the duration nor the trigger of the ban is known. However, Amouranth doesn’t seem to be too bothered by the ban, as she continues streaming cheerfully.
Twitch bans Amouranth, competitors are happy
How can Amouranth continue to stream? The 29-year-old signed a non-exclusive deal with the dubious Twitch competitor Kick in June. Presumably, it was for several million US dollars.
Since then, Amouranth usually begins her streams with a detour to Twitch and then switches to her new streaming platform – according to the German Twitch streamer Staiy, this is how it is planned and even explicitly agreed in contracts by Kick. This way, it is supposed to be possible to gradually lure viewers to the new platform.
At the moment she was hit by the ban hammer, Amouranth was already live on Kick and continued her stream there unaffected. However, it should be noted that the appearances of the 29-year-old on the black-green platform are likely to be significantly less lucrative than on Twitch: While her last stream before the ban averaged almost 5,000 viewers, the stream on Kick only received 399 views.
Twitter users are annoyed with Twitch’s ban policy
What are the reactions like? Not everyone is happy that Amouranth continues to stream despite her ban. In the comments under the announcement of her ban, some Twitter users are already complaining.
They find it unfair that Amouranth, who has been banned by Twitch multiple times, is allowed to return again and again while other content creators like ishowspeed and JiDion have been permanently banned (via Twitter).
A user jokes that they will see each other in the next stream anyway tomorrow, to which another sarcastically notes that they wonder how long the ban will last this time – Amouranth has not received a longer ban so far.
Amouranth has a reputation as a tough businesswoman and is a master at recognizing and seizing opportunities. Therefore, it is not surprising that the 29-year-old can still profit from a ban – which can mean a painful loss of income for others:
