In a gameplay showcase, there were new characters and a first look at the gameplay for the next brawler in Dragon Ball on Steam. We’ve got the info for you.
What kind of game is this? Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is the latest installment in the brawler series Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi, which has been released since 2005. It was announced at the end of 2023 during the Game Awards as a successor and direct evolution of the first three games.
For the new game, key characters from the Dragon Ball anime and manga like hero Son Goku and anti-hero Vegeta were announced earlier this year. In the showcase, the first gameplay was shown, and additional playable characters were introduced.
What new characters are there? The gameplay showcase also introduced a round of new characters for the game. Here you can watch the trailer:

- Kakunsa
- Master Roshi (Max Power)
- Nappa
- Burter
- Toppo
- Jeice
- Super Saiyan Kale Berserk

However, these are probably not all the fighters that will be playable in the final game. The Dragon Ball universe has become quite extensive, and many familiar faces from earlier games are still missing. Further announcements are awaited.
What’s new in gameplay? For the already fourth installment of the Budokai Tenkaichi series, the development team wants to provide more options for tactics and combat strategies. In addition to well-known techniques like the Dragon Dash
, they have incorporated four new skills:
- Revenge Counter: This new ability allows you to unleash a counterattack at the moment you take a hit yourself.
- Short Sprint: The basic movement speed will be higher than in previous titles. The short sprint allows you to execute more complex maneuvers.
- Super Awareness: This allows you to counter before the opponent’s attack lands.
- Vanishing Attack: The fourth new skill gives you the ability to appear right in front of a distant opponent and attack.
According to the showcase, there will be more new abilities that have not yet been presented. However, the team emphasizes in the video that the game should be as close as possible to the fights known from the anime and manga.
When Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO will be released is currently unknown. However, there is currently an Easter sale on Steam, where you can surely find some matching games to pass the time until the release. Among other things, one of the games that Gronkh made popular is currently cheaper.
