In Pokémon GO there was a small event yesterday. However, one detail left frustration in the community.
What event was it? Yesterday, as every Tuesday, there was a Spotlight Hour in Pokémon GO. During the short, 60-minute event, there is a monster that appears in very high numbers in the game and can be caught by you. A bonus is also part of the event.
The Spotlight Hour yesterday featured Gastly and even had a second bonus. Yet, this bonus caused frustration in parts of the community.
Used everything, received little
What bonus are we talking about? The Spotlight Hour with Gastly had a special bonus that is quite rare in these events. You had the chance to receive energy for the Mega Evolution of Gengar when you catch Gastly.
However, the chance seems to have been very low. Some trainers from the community noted on Reddit how they used the event and how little of the coveted energy they received.
What does the community say about it? While some trainers in the post report that they cannot really complain about it, the majority of the comments say otherwise:
- “I walked around for a whole hour and caught Gastly left and right. In one hour, with incense activated and while walking routes, I got a total of … 60 Mega Candies … I am disappointed! I was sure it would be worth it. I can’t even perform a Mega Evolution!”, writes SsaucySam
- “I spent the entire hour with incense, Spacial Rend, and walking and only got 35 … I must have caught over 300”, comments cerealfordayz
- “I already had some … and ended up with 195. Frustrating, lol”, notes Throttle_Kitty
- “Caught 300. 0 Mega energy. Totally disappointed”, summarizes Tipsy_Red his findings
How do I get more Mega energy? If you haven’t yet received the 200 energy needed to trigger your first Mega Evolution, you currently still have further opportunities to collect it.
Until October 27, 2025, the first part of the Halloween event is running in Pokémon GO. There are various event field research tasks. In the task “Use 10 Power-Ups on Pokémon,” you can earn Mega energy for various monsters – including Gengar.
Additionally, you will find Mega Gengar from October 28 to November 4, 2025 in Mega Raids in Pokémon GO. If you haven’t received the necessary Mega energy by then, you will have another great opportunity to catch up.
