The new update 0.211.1 for Pokémon GO is causing a lot of frustration among trainers. The cause is numerous game bugs that impact the gaming experience. What it’s all about can be found here.
What happened? In preparation for the upcoming Pokémon GO Fest in July 2021, Niantic has already made some changes in the game, such as the new loading screen. For this reason, the update 0.211.1 has been available for players since June 11, 2021.
However, this update is currently causing a lot of excitement and discussion among trainers. This is because, in addition to the new game content, it has also brought a multitude of game bugs.
What game bugs are there due to the update in Pokémon GO?
Since the update, trainers of Pokémon GO are complaining on social networks about numerous bugs and lags. Overall, they perceive the game as significantly slower than before. We have summarized the bugs that also exist here.
Problems with throwing curveballs
Some trainers report that they can no longer throw curveballs since the update. The game delays the spinning and throwing, causing the balls to fly to the edges of the field. To hit the Pokémon, some players now have to throw straight.
Other players report in this context that their balls do not fly far enough and therefore they cannot hit Pokémon standing a bit farther away. Due to these significant limitations, some trainers, like reddit user PsiPab, believe that the game is hardly playable anymore (via reddit.com).
Sleep mode in Pokémon GO
After the update, some players were surprised to find that the game does not stay continuously open even with prolonged inactivity. One user describes on Facebook that his screen turns black after a short time and goes into sleep mode (via facebook.com). This was not the case before.
This feature is perceived as disturbing by some players. While they could keep Pokémon GO open in the past to occasionally catch a monster while walking to the next PokéStop, they now have to ensure that it does not shut off beforehand.
Excessive heating of the smartphone with the game on
As some trainers report on reddit, they notice increased heat development in their smartphones since the update (via reddit.com). Once they have opened the game, the smartphone begins to heat up significantly. Some players therefore express their concerns about potential impacts on the phone battery.
Other errors after the update in Pokémon GO
Also in the area of sound and graphical representation, trainers have noticed changes according to reddit (via reddit.com). For instance, the volume of the music was reset back to 100 %. However, the Pokémon cry is missing during an encounter.
Regarding the graphical representations, players have noticed that the background of lucky Pokémon no longer differs from that of others. As can be seen in the following image, both backgrounds look the same. Previously, they were highlighted in a dark blue, as seen in our post about lucky Pokémon.
Another point that bothers trainers after the update is the missing option to skip the reward display after a battle quickly. This was possible before, but now it does not work anymore. Additionally, the message “A wild … has appeared” is missing during encounters with Pokémon.
Moreover, some players report having problems connecting with GoPlus. So does Twitter user John Lafferty (via twitter.com).
Health impairments due to the update
In addition to numerous reports of game bugs that mar the gaming experience, some players are struggling with health impairments because of these errors. User SuddenHelicopter6604 writes on reddit that he has been regularly seeing brief flashes of light on his display when a Pokémon is about to be caught since the update. (via reddit.com)
He did not have this problem before. Due to his epilepsy, this acts as a trigger. He notices that it makes him feel nauseous, particularly in low light conditions, which indicates the onset of a seizure. Pre-existing or sensitive players face a health risk with this issue, which must be resolved as soon as possible.
Community wishes
First and foremost, trainers are demanding the fixing of game bugs. In particular, the post by SuddenHelicopter6604 has moved the reddit community deeply (via reddit.com). His post has been shared countless times for this reason so that Niantic quickly becomes aware of this issue.
But players are also active on other issues. For instance, reddit user Sinbatalad claims to have contacted Niantic support several times to draw attention to the issue of smartphones overheating through their public pages (via reddit.com).
Some Android users have reverted their new version back to the old version due to the many issues. User Slava Lee also recommends that his fellow players do the same (via facebook.com).
In general, players, like Twitter user Wish10, demand that Niantic properly tests the updates beforehand before releasing them (via twitter.com). Whether Niantic will comply with this request remains to be seen.
