A really good Community Day in Pokémon GO served as the basis for an April Fool’s joke. Such a pity.
April 1st is over, and in Pokémon GO, the international day of jokes was quite remarkable: Mimikyu suddenly appeared as a long-awaited Pokémon in the game and can currently be caught.
But as it is on this day, there are April Fool’s jokes everywhere on the internet and you have to be careful about which information to believe and which to disregard.
A user in the Pokémon GO subreddit TheSilphRoad took the opportunity to make a joke as well. In a post on Reddit, the user recreated the well-known infographics from Niantic and seemingly announced the Community Day in July 2026. The Pokémon of the day: Cosmog.
That would indeed be an absolute top Community Day. A legendary monster for which you rarely get candy? With increased shiny chances? And the awesome evolutions Solgaleo and Lunala? It was too good to be true. And so it ultimately was.
But when you look at the comments, you can see that players are really eager for a Community Day that would actually be that good.
What is the problem with the Community Day?
The comments paint an interesting picture. Because the voices show that those who briefly took the joke at face value are indeed quite interested in such a day:

Such comments can be found there. And this highlights a problem that especially long-term players have with the Community Day: They often don’t bring exciting Pokémon anymore.
What does MeinMMO author Max Handwerk think? Of course, the Community Day with its shiny chance and bonuses is always a good event, but often the Pokémon are less interesting. They have often been in the game for a long time, you already have them, or they don’t contribute anything in raids or PvP. It’s a problem that inevitably arises in Pokémon GO – after all, the game will soon be ten years old, and many top Pokémon have already been released in Community Days.
The upcoming Community Day brings Forgita, which is actually a highlight again. However, the past months often brought mediocre or well-caught Pokémon for many. There were examples like Monozyto, Flabébé, Pamo, various starters, or well-known Pokémon. Highlights like Meikro or Miniras are the exception.
In the past, the Community Day was a must-attend event. Nowadays, at least I sometimes just skip them.
A Cosmog Community Day would certainly be a real must-play event among the Community Days. In the end, it was just an April Fool’s joke. But: Perhaps such an event would not be a bad idea!
