A trainer was able to catch the shiny variant of the Shuckle in Pokémon GO. However, unfortunately, the isopod appeared just moments after she had spent her candies on developing the normal version.
What a catch! As the trainer “SphynxHaus” shared in the Pokémon GO subreddit, she managed to catch the 7th-gen Pokémon Shuckle in its stylish shiny variant. Although this silverfish-like pocket monster isn’t particularly impressive, its evolution, Tectass, is among the strongest bug attackers in Pokémon GO.
In fact, the trainer could feel quite lucky, but unfortunately, the catch comes at the most inconvenient time.
Trainer collected candies for months
Why is the trainer upset? As SphynxHaus explains, she received the shiny immediately after developing her existing Shuckle. This wouldn’t be so dramatic if the little isopod didn’t require a particularly large number of candies for its evolution.
A whole 400 candies are needed to evolve the weak Shuckle into the strong Tectass. The trainer says she collected candies for months and caught 85 Shuckle during that time. As can be seen in her attached screenshot, after the evolution she has only 6 candies left – including the ones she received from catching the shiny.
It’s particularly annoying since, as SphynxHaus says, she deliberately waited a few more days to evolve when she already had the required candies. When she finally pressed the button, the shiny was even the next Pokémon that appeared on the map.
In the comments, other trainers report similar frustrating experiences.
For example, the same could happen with Magikarp, which also requires 400 candies to evolve into Gyarados. Additionally, there is a field research task that requires this evolution.
However, there is another perspective on the matter. For instance, Reddit user djscanner writes: “If you hadn’t evolved first, you wouldn’t have been blessed by the gods.” Perhaps SphynxHaus can find some comfort in this thought when she catches the next 84 Shuckle.
There are also other times when you might not want to encounter a shiny Pokémon. Much frustration was also experienced by this trainer, whom we reported on some time ago: Pokémon GO: Trainer finds one of the rarest shinies, throws over 100 balls at it
