A player who usually plays Pokémon GO in rural areas is visiting Japan. In Tokyo, he apparently can’t stop being amazed.
Many of you may have noticed it already: The difference between normal
cities and the countryside is often significant in Pokémon GO.
While some villages and small towns may have only two to three PokéStops or gyms, if any, in big cities, you often find significantly more places you can use.
However, the Japanese capital Tokyo seems to make an even more drastic difference. As one of the largest cities in the world, and especially in Japan, you can expect that Pokémon GO plays differently here – but a trainer in the Pokémon GO subreddit TheSilphRoad
is now reporting how extreme the difference is.
Tokyo – a special city for Pokémon GO
This is what the trainer reports: User squeeks9950 shares impressions in the subreddit that sound quite exciting. He is used to only a few stops and gyms from his rural area. Team takeovers of various gyms happen only slowly, and usually, there is room for at least 2 Pokémon. Trainers reportedly wait 8 hours to kick someone out, but raids turn out to be difficult.
Experiencing the game in Tokyo, according to squeeks9950, is almost its own culture shock
(via reddit).
Stops and gyms are literally everywhere, and conquering or adding your own Pokémon, and thus earning coins, is almost impossible. The gyms are always full, and local players constantly save them with berries from attacks.
And even if you conquer them, you apparently get kicked out quickly, reports the trainer. However, raids are always super full.
What do other players say? In the comments, players report similar experiences in the Japanese capital, which seems to be in a class of its own when it comes to Pokémon GO.
Some players comment that they have played in big cities like London or American metropolises, but that it is not the same level.
Some also mention New York, which is somewhat comparable – while some suspect that spoofers like to interfere there.
User QuickBobcat (via reddit) describes: “Yep, that was our experience in Tokyo too when we were there last month. Raids were great because you had 5–15 people challenging Megas and 5-star raids,” reports the trainer, who managed to secure two crypto Mewtwos.
Regarding earning coins, the trainer agrees that Tokyo with the contested gyms is not suitable.
