When presenting the first trailer for FC 25 , there is great emphasis on providing as much spectacle as possible. In just 2 seconds of the new trailer, a new feature was introduced that could fundamentally change the entire game.
How is the new feature introduced in the trailer? In the trailer, the camera zooms out from the gameplay after you have experienced the first game scenes up close, revealing the perspective of a fan watching the field from above in the stands.
At this moment, the design changes. The players are highlighted, similar to an analysis tool, as we know from TV tactics experts, marked by circles and lines. At the same time, 4 large letters appear on the field: “FC IQ”

FC IQ: “most significant change in over a decade”
The producer of the Match Experience for FC 25, Thomas Caleffi, announced during the presentation of the new successor FC IQ as “the most significant change in over a decade”.
What is this new feature? The term FC IQ is composed of the letter pairs “FC”, which stands for the EA FC genre, and “IQ”, which we commonly know as the intelligence quotient. The name suggests a proprietary game intelligence.
While last year introduced playstyles that aimed to represent player skills with the ball more realistically, FC IQ now also scrutinizes player movements off the ball more closely. Up to 4,000 minutes of individual player data were collected and analyzed using EA’s analysis tool “Opta”.
The outcome is a new concept that EA will introduce as “player roles” in FC 25.
New player roles replace work rates
The player roles include player instructions and player positioning on the field with and without the ball. The work rates that you have known for many years are a thing of the past.
Player roles will now determine when and how the player collaborates on the field, both going forward and backward. While in the past you had to painstakingly give detailed instructions to each individual player manually, in FC 25 you can simply assign the player a specific offensive or defensive role.
A player can fill up to 5 different roles per position. The best players can perform their roles particularly well as a “+-variant” or “++-variant”. This means they excel in their running paths, can recognize various situations faster, and position themselves wisely accordingly.
At the launch of FC 25, there are expected to be over 30 unique roles for players, each of which can even be assigned up to 3 different focuses, depending on whether the player should concentrate more on offense or defense.
The mixture of various player roles and focuses results in countless combinations for FC 25. This could make tactics and gameplay feel more unique than ever before.
