It has not been entirely clear what exactly Torchlight Frontiers wants to be. The online action RPG is supposed to be the continuation of the Torchlight series, but whether it will be an MMORPG was not explicitly stated – until now.
As designer Max Schaefer explains in a new video, Torchlight Frontiers is definitely an MMO. Although it has action-RPG elements, at its core it is supposed to be a true MMO.
What does Torchlight Frontiers offer? As a continuation of the well-known Torchlight series, the new game aims to take the player experience into a massively multiplayer world without going too far from its roots.
- The world will continuously evolve as the team works on updates and content expansions
- You are a part of this world and contribute to how it develops
- The world is persistent and will continue to live on even when you are not online
- You team up with other players, explore the areas, investigate ruins and dungeons, and fight countless monsters
What MMO features can we expect?
There are still unanswered questions: Even though the developers have now confirmed that Torchlight Frontiers is an MMO, several questions remain open:
- How many players are present per server in the world?
- Will there be raids?
- What about solo content for all fans of the first two Torchlight games who loved that solo experience?
- What classes are available?
- How will we improve our heroes?
- Is there crafting and housing?
- How will PvP be integrated into the game?
More details to follow: As Max Schaefer explains in the video, more information about Torchlight Frontiers will be released in the coming months. We will definitely get answers to the remaining questions then. Torchlight Frontiers will be released at an unspecified date for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
