The most played games on Steam were classified by peak simultaneous players. This counts the highest point within a year.
The games that had more than 100,000 players at the same time included:

- GTA V
- Realm Royale
- Path of Exile
- Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds

What stands out? Especially classic games like GTA V, CS:GO, DOtA 2, Path of Exile, PUBG, or Warframe remain among the most successful games. But also new releases that came out in 2018, like Realm Royale, Monster Hunter World, or Scum, have risen to become successful games.
Realm Royale, in particular, had only a short-lived peak that dropped quickly.
Especially games like Atlas or Counter Strike, which faced massive criticism in 2018, are among the most successful games. Despite all the criticism, these games are successful.
