Today, on September 3, 2020, the new Battle Royale Spellbreak officially starts. It is free for all players on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. We will show you what to look forward to.
What is Spellbreak? The Battle Royale comes from developer Proletariat and relies on magic instead of weapons. You fight on a gradually shrinking map and gather your loot needed for the battle. At gamescom 2020, the release date was officially announced.
Spellbreak was playable in beta over the past weeks, allowing some players to gain experience. Now the Battle Royale is completely free.
Spellbreak – A Battle Royale with Magic
These are the contents of Spellbreak: You play Spellbreak in a classic Battle Royale style. You can land anywhere on the huge map and must orient yourself by the circle that gradually shrinks. This forces you to encounter opponents sooner or later. Whoever survives last wins the round.
On the map, you will find gloves everywhere that you can equip. There are different types of gloves that provide you with different spells. Depending on the glove, you can unleash fire, ice, or electricity on your opponents. You can carry two different gloves at the same time, allowing you to launch different spells.
Besides your spells, you can also fly – at least temporarily. You can jump through the air, but you will invest energy in doing so, which you also need for casting spells. The energy recharges quickly, but in battle, you need every bit of free energy you can get.
In combat, you will need to act tactically. You can bombard your opponents with a firework of spells or alternatively attack from above, but then you will have less energy for the spells.
Is the game worth it? The MeinMMO editors Noah Struthoff and Jürgen Horn have already tested Spellbreak in the beta. They saw a lot of potential in the game, as the mechanics are unique and casting spells is fun.
There was criticism regarding the fact that you mostly fought against very few opponents. Even though the map is designed for about 100 players, usually only 10-15 players participated per round.
However, this may change at release. After all, the beta was paid, and now the Battle Royale is completely free. So you can certainly expect more players.
It is definitely worth taking a look into the Battle Royale. After all, you don’t have to invest any money, and you can see for yourself how it is.
Where can you get Spellbreak? If you are playing on console, you just need to check the respective shop of your platform. There Spellbreak should be available for free download.
On PC, you can get Spellbreak through the Epic Games Store. There the Battle Royale will also be available for free at launch.
The game officially launches on September 3, 2020, at 4:00 PM German time.
It remains to be seen whether Spellbreak will develop into a small hit. If you are looking for alternatives, check out the MeinMMO list of the best Battle Royales on PC, Xbox One, and PS5.
