On March 22, 2022, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands showcased the character editor of the fantasy Borderlands in a stream. The result: pretty crazy.
The “Wondercast” on Twitch provided another insight into “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands,” which celebrates its release this week.
One of the key topics was the character creator. A debut for the Borderlands series: For the first time ever, you can create your own character from scratch in the crazy world of the series, regardless of which class you play in Wonderlands.
Of course, in the past, you could also make quite extravagant costume changes to the Vault Hunters of the Borderlands games. But in “Wonderlands,” it takes things a step further.

What’s in the character editor: In the character editor of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, you have numerous options to customize your characters.
- You can customize hair, beards, and faces
- Body type and size are customizable
- You can also choose a personality
- Details for eyes such as eyelashes, eye color, and shape – all that is customizable
- The same applies to ears, lips, nose & co.
- Nothing has to be symmetrical
- Skin colors and shapes are selectable
- Makeup can also be customized
- The armor can be decorated
Back in November 2021, the developers explained to us in an interview during the Wonderlands interview that it was important for them that players could fully express themselves in their characters, referencing tabletop RPGs.
Accordingly, the editor would come with few limits: “You get tattoos, makeup, hair, helmets, not just skin colors, but also skin types – like diamond or gold. You can be a fish person or a dragon being. You can have one big and one small eye. It doesn’t have to be symmetrical either. You can mix everything you want,” Art Director Adam May explained at the time in the interview: “Probably a lot of monsters will be created there.”
Customization items for your appearance will be scattered throughout the world along with the usual weapon loot.
Overall, an editor element in Wonderlands offers more than, for example, in Borderlands. In Borderlands, you typically do not see your character – with few exceptions – but play from the first-person perspective. So only teammates can enjoy the cool new outfit. This is also possible in Wonderlands thanks to multiplayer and crossplay.
This time, along with the familiar first-person elements, there is also an additional tabletop-style map that plays an important part in the game. On it, your character is represented as a small figure – including the customizations.
