The first deep dive trailer for FC 25 has been released. It shows the first major changes to the gameplay. EA is focusing more than ever on tactical variability both on and off the pitch. A new technology helps you find the playing style, that perfectly suits you.
“Success in FC is no longer about finding the best players in their respective positions, but about finding the right player for the system you want to play.” This is one of the key statements from the new trailer.
It emphasizes that in FC 25, the tactic you are most comfortable with is more valuable than any highly-rated superstar, unless he can play a good role in your formation.
This new-found tactical freedom is enabled by an artificial intelligence called FC IQ. FC IQ encompasses the following tactical options:
- Team tactics
- Player roles
- Smart tactics (in-game tactics, activatable through shortcuts)

EA promises you in the new deep dive trailer about the gameplay, “the best control over how your team moves and plays that there has ever been.”
Team Tactics
You have more options for team tactics than ever before. You can decide exactly how your players position themselves in possession of the ball or how they form when the opponent has the ball.
This is how you can get help in finding the perfect tactic: If you are overwhelmed at the beginning with the freedom of tactical options, that’s not a problem at all. In all modes, you can simply use preset tactics from famous managers like Ancelotti or Pep Guardiola for your game. This way, you can try out which tactical settings suit you better.
While FC 25 still has the usual tactical templates, they are by no means as static as they were in FC 24.
The trailer uses the 4-3-3 formation from coach Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid as an example. This formation can be transformed by you into a 4-2-3-1 in the tactics, at least when you are in possession of the ball in the opponent’s half. Once you lose the ball, your players return to the more stable 4-3-3 formation.
Smart Tactics Adapt to Your Game (Progress)
Especially at the beginning of FC 25, it may be that your new tactic does not immediately prove itself in the game, but during the match you need a new tactical approach. For this, there are the new smart tactics that adapt to the game flow.
This is how FC IQ helps you with your tactics even during the game: Depending on the score, you can make suggested adjustments during the match. For example, a well-balanced 4-4-2 formation is suggested, where you can focus more on a controlled build-up play. If your opponent is creating chance after chance, you can switch to a more defensive 5-4-1 tactic to stand as stable as possible.
These tactics will be suggested to you in the shortcut menu at the bottom of the screen and can be activated by you with just a tap on the arrow key.
Not all of your players will cope with the tactical variability as you would like them to. Therefore, when assembling your team, you now also need to pay attention to the player roles.
Player Roles
To ensure that your players are not overwhelmed with their new tactical freedoms in the game, EA introduces player roles.
Player roles have been developed from real datasets that analyzed the behavior of international top stars like Jude Bellingham or Vinícius Junior. The evaluation for FC 25 resulted in over 50 different player roles, each of which can have up to 3 different focuses.
As you know from the playstyles and playstyles+ from FC 24, the player roles can also be filled out in different qualities:
- Each player has at least one player role that they can perform normally
- Each player has a player role+ that they can perform better than other players
- Only the best players have a player role++, allowing them to master the role perfectly
The combination of player roles and team tactics is intended to guarantee an unprecedented tactical variety for FC 25. Different starting formations, combined with various roles and focus settings, result in thousands of variations. In a preview in the tactics menu, you can even simulate the real tactical setups with the corresponding running paths:
This should cater to every small or big tactics expert.
