The maintenance and regular upgrading of one’s equipment are part of the hero’s daily life in Throne and Liberty. If you approach this task incorrectly, you will waste both time and money. Therefore, MeinMMO provides you with some tips for upgrading equipment.
How does equipment progression work in Throne and Liberty? During your adventure, you will automatically come across weapons and equipment of different quality levels. Alternatively, you can also acquire them through the auction house (only from level 40), receive them as a reward for a quest in the lithography book, or craft them.
Genre-typical items have different quality levels. The simple rule: Purple (Epic) is better than Blue (Rare) is better than Green (Uncommon). By using materials, all equipment pieces can be upgraded multiple times. The maximum level of an item depends on its quality:
- green items can be upgraded to a maximum of level 6
- blue items can reach level 9
- purple weapons and armor can go up to level 12
Do I have to start from scratch with each upgrade? No! For each item, you can transfer upgrades from a green item to a blue upgrade once, or from a blue item to a purple one.
Moreover, it is possible to transfer the upgraded levels of an epic item to another epic counterpart. This way, you also build up a blessing that is important for upgrading traits (more on that below).
The big advantage: Such a transfer costs only a few Sollant (the standard currency of the game) instead of upgrade materials, which become increasingly rare with each quality level.
Tip No. 1: Work patiently from green to blue to purple
Our first recommendation for all equipment slots: First, bring a green piece of your choice to level 6, then transfer it to your desired blue upgrade (which will then have level 3). After that, bring the blue equipment piece to its maximum level of 9, only to then forward these upgrades to the epic counterpart (which then reaches level 6).
Bringing a blue or even purple equipment piece to the respective maximum level without such a transfer is significantly more labor-intensive and expensive in any case.
Additional Tip: If you only have green growth stones lying around on your account but only need higher-level ones, you can convert them with blacksmith NPCs. This will also cost you Sollant and additional materials.
Guilds are extremely important in Throne and Liberty, here are some reasons:
Tip No. 2: MinMaxers should find an ambitious guild
If you want to equip your character in Throne and Liberty as effectively as possible, you absolutely need access to certain PvP activities and the world bosses. One reason: Only through a few activities like castle sieges or tax transport events can you earn real-money currency Luzent outside the auction house.
The other reason: Some of the best weapons in the game drop from the world bosses. If you have to acquire these through the auction house, you will have to pay a lot of Luzent. As part of an ambitious guild, you can farm world bosses (thus earning the weapons for free) or secure a regular income of Luzent through guild PvP events.
Tip No. 3: Decide on two weapons as early as possible
In principle, you can try out the seven weapon types of Throne and Liberty as you wish and always combine two of the peacekeepers. Practically, however, you should decide on a combination of two weapons as early as possible that you want to play deep into the endgame. The reasons for this:
- You must level and unlock all weapons and their abilities individually.
- The weapons benefit differently from the stats that your character and its equipment possess. If you change the weapon, you actually have to redistribute your stats (which is not a problem) and usually procure a completely new equipment compilation tailored to the new weapons (which is labor-intensive and expensive).
Many recommended builds for PvE and PvP in Throne and Liberty that we can recommend can be found on maxroll.gg. And here is our tier list for the weapons in Throne and Liberty.
Tip No. 4 for unlocking traits
First, we need to clarify some basic information: Equipment pieces in Throne and Liberty have three slots for so-called traits. This includes stats like melee hit chance, ranged hit chance, magic hit chance, increased crit chance, melee evasion, or attack speed. However, each item has only a selection of traits it can possess.
You can extract the traits of an item (this destroys the equipment piece) and pack them into a suitable item or sell them through the auction house (various equipment pieces and weapons cannot be sold in the auction house). It is also possible to upgrade each trait of an item multiple times (more on this in Tip No. 5).
To unlock a trait slot, you need a suitable trait item or a copy of the equipment piece on which you want to unlock the slot, with the correct trait. By unlocking the slot, the used trait will go into the new slot or the trait that was in the corresponding slot position on the equipment copy.
Which way is cheaper? In most cases, the raw trait item in the auction house is likely to be significantly cheaper than a complete equipment piece with the matching trait.
The alternative: Through certain activities, you can earn unlock stones for trait slots in limited quantities, for example through tasks in the lithography book. However, these are so rare that you should absolutely NOT waste them on any common equipment pieces.
Our recommendation: Use the stones to unlock the traits of a particularly strong weapon (such as a world boss weapon) or for traits that are particularly expensive in the auction house.
Tip No. 5 for upgrading traits
What about upgrading traits? For this, you do not need a copy of the same item, but just any item for the corresponding slot that has the respective trait and the same quality level.
You can also use items with a lower quality for upgrading traits. However, the chance of a successful trait upgrade will no longer be 100 percent. For example, if you sacrifice a blue pair of pants to improve your purple leg protection, the chance of success drops to only ten percent (with a green piece, it would only be one percent).
By failing upgrade attempts, you build up a stackable blessing that you can invest at any time to increase the chance of a successful upgrade (up to 100 percent). If you are lucky and obtain the upgrade early, you can then invest the accumulated blessing into the next upgrade immediately.
Warning: Once you confirm that you want to use your blessing, it will be gone afterward – regardless of whether the subsequent upgrade was successful or not.
Our recommendation: Depending on the prices in the auction house (and your luck), it may be significantly cheaper for you to perform a trait upgrade for a purple item using several blue equipment pieces than if you buy a significantly more expensive epic and receive the upgrade immediately.
