How to obtain The Mind of Horror: Play the Nightfall version of the strike “The Corrupted”. This is the strike in the Dreaming City. You have a low chance to drop the weapon; it is not guaranteed. You can only obtain The Mind of Horror when “The Corrupted” is selectable in the Nightfall strike overview.
What makes The Mind of Horror in Destiny 2
The Mind of Horror is a strike-specific, legendary pulse rifle that belongs to the “Rapid-Fire Frame” archetype. It has a high rate of fire and a slightly increased reload speed when the magazine is empty. The weapon deals elemental damage:
The stats of The Mind of Horror are solid across the board for a pulse rifle of this archetype. The aim assist stands out. It has a strong optimal time-to-kill of 0.8 seconds in PvP.
The pulse rifle drops with random perks. However, there is also a hand-picked catalyst role by Bungie that you will have on The Mind of Horror if you obtain it directly as a masterpiece.
The masterpiece perks:
- Hammer-Forged Rifling: Increases range
- Extended Mag: Significantly increases magazine size but greatly reduces reload speed
- Zen Moment: Damage dealt with this weapon increases its stability
- Outlaw: Precision kills significantly reduce reload time
For the random perks, you should look out for these perks:
- Polygonal Rifling: Increases stability
- Zen Moment, Headseeker (body hits temporarily increase precision damage) or Targeting Adjuster (aiming increases effective range)
- Outlaw, Kill Clip (reloading after a kill increases damage) or Dragonfly (precision kills cause the target to explode)
Generally, ensure that you increase stability and range for The Mind of Horror. The base range is already quite good, but engagements at longer distances are not recommended for this pulse rifle archetype. Every bit of stability and range alleviates this drawback.
Is The Mind of Horror worth it?
If you increase the stability of this weapon with appropriate perks, The Mind of Horror should shoot as precisely as a laser and feel really good.
The masterpiece version grants The Mind of Horror an additional +10 stability on top of the fixed perks, making it even more stable. Your shots will reliably hit targets at short to medium distances, and you will also hit something at longer ranges.
According to the YouTuber xHOUNDISHx, it is probably the best rapid-firing pulse rifle that is not just for pulse rifle enthusiasts. He even calls it an “epic, strike-exclusive pulse rifle” that is useful in both PvE and PvP. How it performs in practice can be seen here:
