It is worth creating a new character in Elder Scrolls Online again, as the old tutorial is coming back and players are celebrating it! But that’s not all, as Update 44 brings many new features.
What are the new changes to the tutorial? In Elder Scrolls Online, several things are being restructured with Update 44. Instead of the quest “The Adamantine Gates,” the tutorial will now use the first chapter of ESO’s main quest line “Soul Shriven in Coldharbour” again. This is already pleasing some players on Reddit.

Beginners can now also enjoy the original tutorial and can chat with the old hands. And anyone who wants to indulge in nostalgia can now create a new character to relive the old tutorial.

Update 44: New Companions and More!
What else is announced for Update 44? The excitement over the comeback of the old tutorial is great, but that’s not all that makes ESO’s heart beat faster. Especially exciting is that with Update 44, two new companions are being introduced: “Tanlorin” and “Zerith-var.”
The two provide a passive bonus when they accompany you on adventures. You can also activate the benefits permanently by completing the unique achievement of the respective companion.
- Tanlorin: This companion helps you with lockpicking. With him, you not only have more time but also a higher chance of picking the lock. Additionally, the lockpick breaks less often.
- Zerith-var: gives you a kind of radar that alerts you to bags of loot during your adventure journey.
How can you find and recruit the new companions? If you have an ESO Plus membership, you will receive both allies for free upon release. Otherwise, you will have to purchase the two with Crowns in the Crown Store.
Once you have the new companions, you can find Tanlorin in Auridon and Zerith-var in Shadowfen to recruit them.
What is planned for PvP? The usual three-way battlegrounds are now a thing of the past, giving way to large two-sided encounters. The previously played mode “4 against 4 against 4” will likely only be available during special PvP mini-events in the future.
However, all other known modes will remain available to you. Additionally, there will be a dynamic “4 against 4,” which consists of four players each and will be a ranked mode. Furthermore, you can explore seven new exciting maps in that mode.
Moreover, a “8 against 8” standard mode with reinforcements will be introduced. Two teams of eight players each will participate. Thus, Update 44 brings a lot of variety for fans of Elder Scrolls Online.
What else does ESO have in store for us? Apart from the features mentioned so far, the new update brings some additional improvements. When you plunge into the battle in the sewer tunnels, you will now be appropriately rewarded. The new activity and reward system will also be adjusted: The Golden Endeavors allow you to grab extra loot within a certain time frame.
Update 44 is about to be released on October 28, 2024, for PC and Mac, and on November 13, 2024, for Xbox and PlayStation.
