The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) features a very dynamic combat system and a large variety of dungeons and trials. Naturally, you will also encounter many bosses there. We would like to introduce you to some of the craziest among them.
The Elder Scrolls Online offers a lot of dungeons and raids, and with each new expansion and selected DLCs, there are a few more. Just recently, with the Greymoor addon, a new raid was added, and with the DLC Stonethorn, two new dungeons are coming to ESO.
In terms of boss mechanics, there is often no shortage. Especially in hard mode, an extension of the veteran mode and the most difficult level, you can usually expect a lot of chaos.
MyMMO author Larissa Then wants to introduce you to 5 bosses that have remained memorable due to their crazy mechanics. They don’t even have to be particularly hard; the little things often make the fun.
1. Ondagore the Mad
What kind of boss is this? The first boss is Ondagore the Mad. He is located in the dungeon “The Unholy Tomb” and is your 4th encounter there.
What makes him so crazy? The boss stands in the middle on a platform. Unless you have to flee behind pillars from his area attack, you will depend on your grapple.
In general, you will need this in the Unholy Tomb quite often. This grapple mechanic reminded me of Zelda and it’s really fun.
Next to the boss platform, there are others where you can swing and smash enemies with your grapple like Indiana Jones. This makes the fight incredibly dynamic. You can see what it looks like in the following video:
2. Rakkhat
What kind of boss is this? One of the craziest bosses is Rakkhat. He is the final boss in the raid “Lorkhaj’s Maw”.
What makes him so crazy? This boss is so crazy because he has a wide set of attacks. The boss fight takes place on different platforms. You can always expect some attacks there, while others are platform-specific.
So you have to pay attention to which platform you will be on next and what awaits you there. Meanwhile, the boss distributes debuffs, tanks need to take over, and he spawns adds. With these, you also need to watch out for whether they are vulnerable or not.
In the final phase, you as a raid additionally need to collect bubbles quickly. If you don’t manage to do that, the boss will get stronger with each missed bubble.
However, all these mechanics within the main arena are not everything. Two members need to explore outer realms as runners and smash summoners. The entire chaos is very clearly depicted in the video:
3. Zaan
What kind of boss is this? In the dungeon “Summit of the Scalecaller”, you will encounter the Dragon Priestess Zaan. She is the last boss and is named after her title as Scalecaller for the instance.
What makes her so crazy? Especially in hard mode, the boss has many mechanics. In addition to the adds that you need to kill as quickly as possible, there are various areas on the ground. You need to collect these during the interphases and get a stun to avoid the boss’s poison.
In general, this fight wants to kill you with almost everything. We are used to bosses and adds, but with Zaan, even the petrified dragons in the background want to see you dead. They throw an area attack across the room where you should not stand.
The craziest thing about Zaan is not necessarily the moveset, although that is already very fun. The voice acting is just super cool. The Scalecaller seems a bit insane and her lines give me goosebumps. You can get a glimpse of the voice acting in the video:
4. The Twins
What kind of boss is this? In the raid “Lorkhaj’s Maw”, the two twins are probably the hardest boss. They are your second encounter in the trial and consist of the dark boss Vashai and the light boss S’Kinrai.
What makes them so crazy? For these bosses, the group must split up. The crazy thing about the encounter is that you have to pay attention to color assignments. At the beginning, there is the color of the boss closest to you.
In between, you lose the colors and are assigned new ones in the next color change phase. Throughout the fight, you should only attack the boss whose color you do not have. In addition, you will encounter adds that ideally someone should gather together.
This often leads to chaos if someone does not know exactly what to do. Even with the taunting or the paths to the other color, things can go wrong. You can find a good explanation of how to play this in the following video:
5. The Mad Architect
What kind of boss is this? The Mad Architect is the final boss in the “Chamber of Madness”. This is a dungeon located in Coldharbour.
What makes him so crazy? This boss is not particularly difficult in itself. Especially if you have enough damage. However, it is worth taking it slow sometimes. The boss has a pretty cool mechanic that he might not reach otherwise.
With the mad architect, there are two areas you can stand on. Inside near the boss or a little farther outside. When he performs his attack, one of the two areas becomes safe and one means your end.
If the screen turns white, you should move outside; if it doesn’t, you can stay near the boss. And then the crazy thing happens: the windows in the room all shatter. You can see how cool it looks in the video:
Of course, there are many other bosses that are absolutely crazy. These include the dragons in the raid “Sunspire”; especially the golden one at the end has a really cool set of attacks. However, these five have stuck in my memory the most, even the ones that are not particularly hard.
What about you? Which bosses do you think are totally crazy in ESO?
