What is it about? A 34-year-old nameless man is the typical NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). He wanders aimlessly through the streets until he throws himself in front of a truck to save a group of teenagers. In the process, he loses his life but awakens in another world as a baby.
There he is named Rudeus Greyrat and grows up in a world full of swords and sorcery. He is happy about his second chance in life and decides to make the best of it. Fortunately, he still remembers his previous life, which helps him in his training as a magician. But a catastrophe threatens Rudeus’s world.
What makes the light novel so good? Mushoku Tensei already has an excellent anime adaptation. Nevertheless, there are some points where the light novel excels. Rudeus’s psychological development is described in even greater detail in the novel. It’s as if you are constantly peering into his head and experiencing his traumas and his perverse thoughts up close.
Many backstories are also missing in the anime or are only hinted at. The worldbuilding is also more detailed in the light novel, as it explains things like the languages and the complex magic theory in more depth.
