What is it about? The story of Miyo Saimori is somewhat reminiscent of Cinderella. The girl grows up in a family known for their magical abilities. Miyo herself, however, shows no “gift,” which leads her to be despised by her stepmother and her talented half-sister, treated like a slave.
To get rid of Miyo, the family wants to marry the young girl to Kiyoka Kudo. He is a high-ranking commander who is known for his heartless behavior towards his fiancée. But Miyo, who has lost all hope in life, finds the love of her life with him.
What makes the light novel so good? The anime often only shows Miyo’s trauma through sad looks or trembling. In the light novel, you directly experience her thoughts and see how severe her psychological traumas are. She appears much more as a frightened girl.
Moreover, many details simply do not fit in the anime. These include political backgrounds, details about the gifts, or sweet scenes between Miyo and Kiyoka that further deepen their bond. The light novel is truly something for the heart.
