Baldur’s Gate 3 gives its players a lot of freedom. Therefore, there is no “right way” to go. But a new player manages to play the game as wrong as possible. At least according to his desperate girlfriend.
What is it about? On Reddit, user mysteriouspebble shared an amusing story. After she had enthusiastically raved about Baldur’s Gate 3 for weeks, her boyfriend decided to give the game a chance as well.
But how he would play the game, she apparently did not foresee.
Spoiler warning: Please note that this article contains some spoilers about the companions in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Here you can learn about a useful feature that makes life easier in Baldur’s Gate 3:
He trusts Wyll more than his girlfriend
The start of the game was quite calm for the boyfriend of mysteriouspebble . He spent his first hour of Baldur’s Gate 3 in the character editor. But it quickly became clear that the companions would have a hard time winning his heart.
- First, he called Shadowheart racist.
- “Right after he met Astarion, he asked me if he could kill him,” his girlfriend reports indignantly.
- “He refuses to give Gale artifacts,” she continues. “I like him, but not that much,” was his only explanation.
And other NPCs were not safe from him either.
- “He started a fight with the guards in the Druid Grove. He killed the druids, then the tieflings turned against him too. Everyone died – Zevlor, Kagha, Alfira, Dammon, and everyone else who was there.”
- Somewhere in the chaos, Halsin also died.
So one might think that a classic evil character is being played here. But the other side apparently could not convince either. And so the Goblin Camp had to suffer as well.
- “I thought he would at least want Minthara on his team. But he just said her ‘vibe doesn’t fit’, so he killed her.”
Could she stop him? Actually, mysteriouspebble did not want to interfere in her boyfriend’s playthrough. But when he set out determined to kill Karlach, she tried to persuade him otherwise. With little success.
- “He said he trusts Wyll’s judgment more than mine,” she writes desperately.
Karlach never got the chance to explain herself.
Will anyone survive?
Despite her disbelief about her boyfriend’s chaotic play style, mysteriouspebble is actually excited:
I am amazed at how many ways there are to play this game. And although there is no objectively wrong way, I am pretty sure this one comes closest.
The comments also humorously discuss whether anyone will still be alive by the end of his game:
- “Gale will probably explode unless he leaves to die alone.” (helm)
- “Sounds like he will also kill Jaheira, thus missing Minsc. Lae’zel will probably be sacrificed if she even survives that long…” (Soul_Ripper)
- “He is only worried about the low frame rates in Act 3, so he is planning ahead” (gu3st12)
In the end, mysteriouspebble clarifies that this is certainly not a red flag for her. Her boyfriend is simply particularly interested in the role-playing aspect of Baldur’s Gate 3 and is really good at it.
For the next playthrough, by the way, a classic hero character is already planned. A lot of story can then be caught up that is currently unavailable due to the premature death of some companions.
But it is not only through killing characters that you might miss something. A boss in Baldur’s Gate 3 is so hard to find that almost everyone overlooks him:
