Makabaja
What kind of Pokémon is this? The Ghost-type Pokémon has existed since Black and White. The small black ghost has references to Egyptian mythology, as it wears a death mask and its body resembles the Eye of Horus.
With Sword and Shield, the Pokémon received a Galar form. Instead of a death mask, it carries around a clay tablet. It also receives a different evolutionary form with Oghnatoll compared to the previous Echnatoll. And the conditions to evolve the Pokémon are something you could never figure out on your own.
How do you evolve it? To evolve Makabaja (Galar form) into Oghnatoll, you must cross the stone bridge in the sandstorm cauldron. The Makabaja must have suffered at least 49 HP of damage, and this must occur through a battle. However, this only works in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Porenta
What kind of Pokémon is this? Porenta is probably familiar to every Pokémon fan. It is the only Pokémon on this list that has existed since the first game generation. The duck Pokémon carries around a leek, which makes it especially tasty.
Since Sword and Shield, it also has a Galar form with the appropriate evolutionary stage. Leekslap looks like an exalted knight with a leek, but to get it, you must fulfill a specific requirement.
How do you evolve it? As is fitting for a knight, one must achieve a special feat in battle. To evolve Porenta (Galar form) into Leekslap, it must achieve a total of 3 critical hits in a battle. This works best with moves like Slash that have an increased critical hit rate.
Are there any other Pokémon with crazy conditions for evolving that come to mind? Let us know in the comments!
In the eponymous anime, the protagonist Ash Ketchum also has a Galar Porenta. Actually, the Pokémon trainer was not supposed to set out with Pikachu but with a completely different Pokémon. You can find out what that is in the following article on MeinMMO: Ash was actually not supposed to travel with Pikachu but with another Pokémon
