The US broadcaster Showtime is currently preparing to shoot a Halo TV series. According to the latest information, Master Chief will take on the leading role, even though the character was rarely seen without his helmet in the games.
The US broadcaster Showtime recently spoke about the upcoming Halo TV series. Filming is expected to begin in 2019, while the show is set to air in 2020. Master Chief, the well-known and beloved character from the games, is expected to be the lead role. A central question of the series will be why the Chief hardly shows his face in the Halo video games.

New Stories with Master Chief
Showtime presents a new series: At the TCA press tour – an event where broadcast and cable networks showcase their upcoming shows – the Showtime network recently introduced the upcoming Halo project. Master Chief is set to play a main role, but will not be the only protagonist.
New stories are expected to be told at “multiple locations” on “alien planets”. Showtime is working with the current developers of the Halo series, 343 Industries, and aims to respect the already established canon.
Halo is not to mimic Game of Thrones: Showtime’s President of Programming Gary Levine and President and CEO David Nevins stated that they do not wish to replicate the success of Game of Thrones with the Halo project. Instead, they deliberately did not hire a writer known for science fiction or large combat films, as these themes are already embedded in the Halo franchise.

The series is expected to shed light on what lies beneath the armor of the super-soldiers Spartans, appealing to both Halo players and drama fans.
Master Chief in the lead role: For Halo fans, it may seem strange that the Master Chief, known from the games, takes one of the lead roles in the show. After all, he is rarely seen without his helmet. According to David Nevins, this detail will be important to the series and one of the key questions for the story.
In the games, the Chief has only taken off his helmet a few times. In the last cutscene after completing the campaign of Halo 4 on “Legendary” difficulty, John-117 shows more or less his face.
By the way, Showtime’s upcoming project is not the first time the Halo franchise has been rounded off by a series.
The live-action miniseries Forward Unto Dawn was released in 2012 alongside Halo 4 and tells the backstory of the game, in which Master Chief also appears. Halo: Nightfall, on the other hand, takes place some time before the events of Halo 5: Guardians, following Spartan Locke and his team. Halo: The Fall of Reach and Halo Legends are animated miniseries.
When will there be a new Halo game?
Halo Infinite announced at E3 2018: At the recent E3, Microsoft showcased a trailer for Halo Infinite. However, it was primarily a tech demo for the Slipspace engine, which the new game in the Halo universe is supposed to run on.
When Halo Infinite is supposed to be released is still unknown. There are currently rumors that the game might even be a launch title for the next console generation.
