In 2025, a new survival MMO in the sci-fi universe of Dune, Dune: Awakening, is set to be released. Awakening takes place on the desert planet Arrakis – and it looks stunningly beautiful in the new trailer.
What kind of game is it? If you have missed the game so far, here’s a brief summary: Dune: Awakening is an upcoming survival MMO by Funcom, the creators of Conan Exiles. The setting is the Dune universe created by sci-fi author Frank Herbert.
In a new trailer, the developers of Dune: Awakening present the game world. It is the desert planet Arrakis – the planet of spice (an extremely valuable resource) as well as the home of the Fremen and huge, all-consuming sandworms.

Everything done right with the atmosphere
What does the trailer show? Even though Arrakis is an endless desert (you won’t find water here), the environment is quite diverse. In addition to classic dunes, the trailer shows enormous rock formations battered by the planet’s strong winds, massive canyons, and also some beautiful plays of light.
It seems that the deadly beauty of Arrakis has already captivated many fans. In the comments on the trailer on YouTube, among other things, it is said:
- mdilelio: “You managed to make a biome like the desert a place full of diversity and verticality. Great job!”
- RealisticMgmt: “Whatever one might say about this game, once it’s released, one cannot deny that Funcom has captured the essence of Arrakis. Absolutely stunning work.”
- maninredhelm: “The one thing you can always count on from Funcom is the aesthetics. I’m a big admirer of their work, which is why I stick with them.”
While there’s great praise for the game’s atmosphere, opinions on the gameplay are not quite as certain. maninredhelm adds: “The gameplay on the other hand… Well, we will ride this worm when it appears.”
When will the game be released? The developers are still hesitant to pin down a specific release date. The trailer mentions “Early 2025,” so it shouldn’t be long now (unless the game gets surprisingly delayed).
