One of the most anticipated moments in the history of The Lord of the Rings was portrayed by the creators of the series The Rings of Power with many gaps. The depth of the siege of Eregion is almost entirely missing from the series.
Which battle is it about? It is about the siege of the city of Eregion, where the Elves live. Sauron deceives the Elves to participate in the creation of the Rings and ultimately subjugate the peoples of Middle-earth. Eventually, his true identity is revealed and he attacks Eregion.

The series cannot keep up with the original work
What does the original work describe? Tolkien describes Eregion in his work as a place characterized by beauty and rich culture. The fact that this place now has to suffer such great sorrow marks a turning point for Middle-earth and heralds an era of darkness.
During this siege, terrible acts occur. For example, Sauron uses the corpse of Celebrimbor as a banner to motivate his troops. These acts represent the darkness that Sauron brings with him.
Sauron’s goal is not only to win Eregion for himself, but he also wants to break the spirit of the Elves. He wants to subjugate them. Tolkien highlights the despair of the Elves in his original work, making Sauron’s actions all the more horrific.
This depiction of Sauron is an important aspect of his characterization. As a reader, one learns his true personality.

What is different in the series? The cruelty present in Tolkien’s original work is almost entirely absent in the series. Although The Rings of Power prepares for a season finale with the final battle, it disappoints rather than delivers what was promised in the previous episodes.
Within the episode, the conflict becomes smaller. It starts as a field assault, transitions into a cavalry attack, and ends almost in hand-to-hand combat at the city walls.
The cruelty is essential to understand what this siege means for the Elves. What emotional and psychological damage they suffer from it. This is noted by Chema Mansilla from 3DJuegos.
The representation in the series lacks depth; it does not convey the tragedy of Sauron’s actions. The omission of details may lead viewers to not fully grasp what the events mean for all of Middle-earth.
This is not the first time that the series The Rings of Power deviates from Tolkien’s source material. In the past, several deviations have been criticized, as also noted by our author Christoph Waldboth: The Lord of the Rings on Amazon changed two of the most powerful characters and that is a problem
