The great puzzle began when the organizer of the Game Awards shared some coordinates. This sparked a search for a possible new announcement at the award show. Now the search is over, and the result is related to the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3.
What kind of puzzle was it? Geoff Keighley posted coordinates in a desert in the USA. Additionally, a picture of a statue filled with undead and animals was seen on X. A fan ventured into the desert and discovered the rest of the statue.
After further clues from the organizer, some theories about the statue solidified, including an announcement for Lords of the Fallen 2, The Elder Scrolls 6, or even a new installment of Fallout.
Meanwhile, the puzzle has been solved. The editors of MP1ST searched through trademark filings from various companies in Europe and found out where the symbol on the statue originates.
Creators of Baldur’s Gate 3 announce a game
Who is behind the solution? Recently, three new trademarks were filed in Europe for the Divinity franchise, including a logo and two symbols. This refers to a game developed by Larian Studios, the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3.
One of the symbols looks exactly like the center of the ominous statue. The rights holders of the entries are not listed, but the representing lawyers have previously represented other trademarks from Larian Studios in Europe.
What kind of game is coming now exactly? Furthermore, the reliable account PlayStation Game Size discovered on X a PS5 version of Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition. Accordingly, you can expect that the symbol is related to Divinity: Original Sin. Whether only the Definitive Edition for PS5 or a completely new installment will be announced remains to be seen.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the title that Larian Studios developed before Baldur’s Gate 3. It was first released in 2017 for various platforms, and the Definitive Edition was already available in 2018, but not for PS5.
In the game, you play as a Source Mage. However, casting Source magic is forbidden, as your actions are said to be responsible for the emergence of the Voidwoken. In the story, you fight your way through, just as you know it from Baldur’s Gate 3, in turn-based battles to the end of the story.
However, there are a few differences:
- BG3 is based on dice luck, while Divinity uses simple hit chances in percentage. There are no spell slots, but cooldowns.
- Divinity is not divided into action, bonus action, and movement, but only into action points.
- Ground effects like lava, ice, or poison are more dominant in Divinity.
The title is much less known than Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian Studios struggled from game to game and almost gave up. Luckily, BG3 could avert the end of the development studio. The whole story is told by Swen Vincke, the head of the studio: Years before the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, the Larian head almost gave up
