An equipment item from Baldur’s Gate 3 has a rather simple function, which has been tested by players to its limits. Now it is clear that the item can serve a completely different purpose that one would not have expected.
Which item is being referred to? It is a pair of gloves that you can buy from the goblin Popper in the circus during the third act of Baldur’s Gate 3. The “Dark Displacement Gloves” are a rare item that grants the wearer a bonus on attack rolls (+1) as well as on dexterity (also +1).
However, the actual special feature of the gloves lies in the ability that the wearer can swap places with the target of the attack after throwing, if the target fails a dexterity saving throw. The attacker and target are then teleported to each other’s positions.
A simple but nice method that can be a good strategy in some fights, but that’s not all. This ability has a trick that makes the gloves especially OP – and it has to do with something completely different.
Here you can see the animated short film for Patch 8 of Baldur’s Gate 3:
With these gloves, you will never have to pick locks again
How does the trick work? The ability of the gloves activates not only with living targets; they just need to have hit points. This includes locked doors as well.
The YouTuber Toyhouze demonstrates in a clip on YouTube what happens when the wearer of these gloves throws at a closed door. Because in this case too, the attacker and target switch positions:
The player is at the location of the vanished door and the door? It just stands there in the middle of the area, without a wall and still closed, but not in the way anymore.
Here you can see the clip from Toyhouze:
What other possibilities do the gloves offer? If you have an exceptionally skilled locksmith on your team and do not need to “teleport” locked doors out of the way, you can still implement strong strategies with the gloves.
You can surround yourself with bombs or other explosive, toxic, or generally dangerous items and then swap places with an opponent before you blow the place up, as @masochistichodgepodge160 writes in the comments under the clip on YouTube.
Another player (@MrH4nky) writes that even the game’s final boss in the final battle, the Elder Brain, could simply fall into the void through the swap. @Dizgavin writes that while this works, it bugs the whole fight quite a bit. Therefore, especially in Honour Mode, one should avoid this strategy.
Even 2 years after the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, dedicated fans are discovering more tricks that other players have never heard of. Some are more hidden and can only be found through constant experimentation, while others are actually quite obvious. Here are some of these actually obvious tricks that players stumble upon too late: Player finds a simple trick that makes many things easier after over 900 hours in Baldur’s Gate 3: “How come I only find this out now?”
