With the luxury graphics card ASUS ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 5090, ASUS sets new standards. The limited edition is supposed to be available in the European market from December 2025. However, according to recent reports, it is already sold out.
What kind of model is it? The ROG Matrix Platinum is a special anniversary model released by ASUS for its 30th anniversary. The card represents the absolute top model of the entire RTX-5090 series from the manufacturer – both technically and visually.
According to an ASUS press report, the MSRP is a whopping 3,999 Euros. For that money, you can also get a used small car, as AutoScout24 shows. The flagship among custom RTX designs is likely limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide and should only be available through selected retailers and the official Asus Shop.
According to PCGamer and TomsHardware, the graphics card is already sold out in the European market before its official release. The comparison platform Geizhals.de lists no current offers.
What could one expect for the price? ASUS installs a cooler that is over four slots wide, larger fans, and uses liquid metal as the thermal interface material. At the same time, protective mechanisms are integrated – such as shunt resistors on the 12V-2×6 connector and a flex detection that is supposed to detect bending of the card (via heise).
With the proud price, there are also some minor uncertainties regarding the execution. On a BTF motherboard, the card can operate with 800 watts, but currently cannot be mounted vertically in a tower case – suitable extensions simply do not yet exist. If you instead use the normal 12V-2×6 power supply, the Matrix operates like any other RTX 5090 and stays at a maximum of 600 watts. In our preview article, we have already introduced you to the graphics card in detail.
The YouTuber der8auer has extensively tested the Matrix 5090 and confirmed ASUS’s claim of around 10% increased performance – but only with the 800 watt limit activated. Although 10% may sound unremarkable, it adds to an already extremely high baseline performance.
From minute 6:00 in the YouTube video, der8bauer explains the reasons for the limitation to 1,000 copies. It is a guideline that NVIDIA is said to require so that 800-watt cards do not become the norm. Thus, it is also clear: The ASUS ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 5090 is a true edition for enthusiasts and collectors.
The sellout and the extremely high prices of the Matrix Platinum Edition further demonstrate how rapidly prices in the high-end segment evolve. Especially when limitations drive prices even higher. First, it was graphics cards that broke new price thresholds, and now the next PC components are following suit: RAM, the important memory, is currently high in demand from international companies, which are buying products en masse.
