If a loud “Törööö” echoed from the television or the cassette player in the children’s room in the morning, it was usually due to the talking elephant Benjamin Blümchen. But did you know that the elephant had a wife?
Who is his wife? In one episode, Benjamin Blümchen met the Indian elephant cow Leila, who even has several children. So Benjamin Blümchen has a genuine blended family.
Leila worked in a circus but later moved to the zoo with Benjamin. They share a common marital bed in the hay, and she becomes his caring elephant wife. Together with him, she learned the language of humans to communicate with Benjamin’s best friend Otto and the others.
Unfortunately, she did not appear in the TV series. Therefore, there is only one image of an audio cassette featuring Leila. In it, she wears her white circus costume adorned with pink and light blue details. She also wears a pink pearl necklace.
Unlike Benjamin Blümchen, the children’s series Bibi Blocksberg received a live-action series:
Benjamin Blümchen’s wife has disappeared without a trace
Why does almost no one know about her? In currently 162 audio plays, she appears only in two:
- Leila first appeared in the 7th audio play “Benjamin Blümchen Falls in Love”. There, they met and fell in love.
- In the 11th audio play “Benjamin Blümchen on the Moon”, he talks with his wife Leila about how much he loves her but is interested in the moon. Leila wants to prevent Benjamin from becoming an astronaut and flying to the moon. But the stubborn one insists and goes to the space agency.
Therefore, it may be that many of you did not know or have since forgotten that Benjamin Blümchen has an elephant wife.
Why has she disappeared? Unfortunately, there is no official reason why the elephant lady has disappeared without a trace from Benjamin Blümchen’s life. According to lore, it could be that they divorced, she passed away, or she is simply not mentioned.
Officially, it could have a similar reason as in the case of Bibi Blocksberg’s brother. He also suddenly disappeared from the scene, and later Bibi Blocksberg is even described as an only child.
The reason: The focus should be entirely on Bibi Blocksberg, which would be difficult with a brother. Since he was jealous of Bibi’s witch powers, it probably would have led to many quarrels between the two.
Presumably, this is also the case with Benjamin Blümchen. The elephant apparently would rather go on adventures with Otto than take care of his wife and children at home.
Although Benjamin Blümchen is a popular children’s series, it unfortunately has not made it into the top 5 of the world’s most popular children’s series. There are two well-known animes, however, that are particularly popular among younger audiences: 2 animes land in the top 5 of the most popular children’s series – one even in 1st place
