The MMORPG Dragons Prophet has no future in its home Taiwan anymore. In early September, the servers will shut down. What does this mean for the game in the West?
What will happen to Dragons Prophet in Asia? The MMORPG Dragons Prophet from the Taiwanese developer Runewaker (Runes of Magic) will soon come to an end in Asia. The servers of the MMORPG are set to be shut down on September 5. Thus, the online role-playing game will be history in its home after a good 6 years and will no longer be playable.
Why are the servers shutting down? Dragons Prophet is not the only game from Runewaker that will soon be shut down. Also the venerable Runes of Magic will be affected in September. The reason is the overall decline of MMORPGs in Asia, where mobile games have largely outperformed the major PC MMORPGs.
Can the West version survive without the original?
What about the West version of the game? Here in the West, Dragons Prophet is distributed under the title “Dragons Prophet: Savage Hunt” by the publisher Gamigo. The game surprisingly released in December 2017 as a reboot without much announcement.
On the Polish MMO site MMORPG.pl, there are already concerns that Dragons Prophet may not have a great future in the West, and only a few games will survive the downfall of the Asian original version in the West.
However, at least for Runes of Magic, which is published by Gameforge in the West, it was said immediately that they would definitely continue the game. Perhaps it will also work out for Gamigo and Dragons Prophet.
What is Dragons Prophet? Dragons Prophet is an MMORPG aimed mainly at fans of Pokémon. Because you can catch and tame over 600 dragons in the game. These creatures are suitable as mounts, and you can even fly on them.
By the way, Dragon’s Prophet already ended in the USA in 2015 under the former publisher Daybreak Games.
