For 7 years, Xur has reliably delivered Exotics every Friday in Destiny 2. However, his inventory became increasingly irrelevant for active players who already own all Exotics. This changed in Season 15 and players are celebrating his comeback.
In the last week, themerchant Xur was highly visited, and for good reason. As soon as the offerings of the iconic NPC were known, players queued up to see him. In particular, a weapon he sold suddenly became as crucial for the PvP endgame in Destiny 2 as raid gear.
These inconspicuous changes are now important:
- With the start of the Season 15, Destiny 2 has expanded Xur’s usually exotic offerings to include legendary armor and weapons.
- These weapons have random perks and the armor has random stats – players should thoroughly search through all goods to see if there’s a God roll included.
- A small change with a big impact that sensibly expands his otherwise exotic and long unchanged inventory.
- Since then, Xur can offer players items each week that are no longer available from other sources.
And one of his new, actually old, additions shot directly into the hearts of the Guardians. Players are hoping this will become a regular occurrence.
This old weapon is: The legendary fusion rifle “The Most Important Ingredient” was brought by Xur on September 17 (and again this week). Xur offered a true 5 out of 5 God roll of the weapon. More about this special roll and what makes it so strong, here on MeinMMO: Destiny 2 strong God rolls for doing nothing
Xur delivers the 3rd deadliest weapon for the Trials
How good the weapon was that Xur had on offer, was shown by the statistics of the Trials of Osiris from September 25 to September 28:
- With over 2 million kills, 3% of all kills, “The Most Important Ingredient” ranks 3rd on the list of deadliest weapons (via Trials report).
- Only The Messenger, the pulse rifle from the Trials of Osiris, and the Vex Mythoclast from the raid could achieve more kills in the PvP endgame, ranking 2nd and 1st respectively.
- Even in the week that Xur first brought the fusion rifle, “The Most Important Ingredient” was directly in the top 10 of the deadliest PvP weapons.
- Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that some players also use other rolls of the fusion rifle, but the most popular option is clearly the Xur roll.

The reason for its high popularity is quickly found: The weapon is incredibly strong in PvP due to the perks that Xur brought. With absurd range, stable one-shot kills can be achieved. Moreover, the meta of Season 15 favors fusion rifles. Even more importantly, however, is that “The Most Important Ingredient” was super easy to obtain. This is not comparable to the effort players put into obtaining the Vex Mythoclast.
This has not gone unnoticed by the players. Xur has long been a cult figure in Destiny 2, and many believe this update to his offerings was long overdue.
This is how players react to the “legendary” Xur: Guardians are thrilled that visiting Xur is finally worthwhile again. After all, he could have a new God roll each week. Bungie has succeeded in bringing excitement back to the dusty NPC. Some are already speculating every Wednesday about what Xur might have for the next Friday.
In summary, user LarryLevis expresses it well (via reddit): “I think it’s great that our tentacle-faced friend can offer meta rewards and that it gives us all a reason to look forward to his appearance again. Good job, Bungie!”
Players can’t get enough of Xur’s changes
This is what Guardians wish for next: Players have even more ideas for the cult merchant in Destiny 2. After old, legendary weapons, Xur should also add unavailable shaders and emblems to his collection.
“It would be fantastic to let him sell unobtainable ornaments.” A proud 6,000 upvotes and over 500 comments were received on the discussion about this on reddit.
Players in Destiny 2 place great importance on the look of their characters. It’s no secret that in Destiny 2, fashion is the real endgame. This is also why the new fashion magazine “Threads of Light” from Bungie is immensely popular among players.
