The development team of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile released a new update that not all players appreciate. This means that a fundamental feature is now behind a paywall. The reason for this is only partially understandable for fans.
Which feature is now paid? On BiliBili, the developers announced that with the update on July 11, 2025, important features will be placed behind a paywall. These include:
- The market boards
- The trading between players
- Use of the company chest
These features will be deactivated for all players immediately. Since the mobile version of Final Fantasy 14 is an MMORPG just like the main version, this is a significant restriction. After all, players rely on trading with others. However, there is a way to unlock the feature again.
How can one regain the feature? Players must top up at least 30 Yuan (about 3.58 Euro) to regain the features. However, the developers did not simply place the paywall in the game; they want to tackle a major problem with it.
Bots flood the mobile version of the MMORPG
What is the problem? Since the release in June, there seem to be so many bots in the game that the developers must take action. With the paywall, the team hopes to combat black market activities. After all, every bot would then have to spend at least 3.58 Euro to pursue their activities.
Players will then need to buy various items in the in-game shop, such as outfits or mounts.
The developers announce that further measures will be taken over time. In addition to the paywall for trading, another measure is now active: To reduce profits on the black market, the Gil (the in-game currency) obtained for completing main quests will be reduced.
Instead, there should be more Gil for activities that require a lot of playtime. Additionally, there will be more Gil for all players who have subscribed to a monthly plan. This way, bots are expected to receive less in-game currency.
How is this received by players? Under a YouTube video by Mrhappy1227, the community is divided. Some can understand why the developers have taken this action. Others would have preferred alternative solutions, such as temporarily disabling the market boards.
Even in the main game Final Fantasy 14, the developers try to satisfy all players.
