In a large livestream, the developers of Dune: Awakening released new information about the update “Chapter 2”. And the next free weekend may be of interest to everyone.
What did the developers say about the update? While the developers presented the new update of Dune: Awakening in detail in a livestream on YouTube, they had to make an announcement right away. The “Chapter 2” update of Dune: Awakening is now set to launch on September 9, 2025, instead of September 10, 2025. So it has been moved up by one day.
All players can look forward to these free contents:
- Main story will continue
- Character editing after creation
- Dynamic encounters
- Contracts in the Social Hub
- New layouts for the Deep Desert
- New archetype armors
- New hairstyles and tattoos
Included for a fee in the DLC “Lost Harvest” is:
- New vehicle
- New quest chain with unique locations
- New building elements and decorations
- New armor and weapon skins
- New swatches and emotes
For interested players who are still waiting to purchase, there will shortly be a good moment to get into the game right after the new release date.

Free weekend for almost all contents
What else did the developers announce? Those who have not yet purchased Dune: Awakening can look forward to another free weekend. Unlike the previous “Free Weekend,” the developers have lifted all limits this time.
While players were previously only allowed to spend 10 hours on Arrakis, everyone interested can explore Arrakis between September 11 and September 14. There are no limits, even the new “Chapter 2” update will likely be available to players as soon as they complete the main story of the game.
According to Howlongtobeat.com, it takes an average of 57.5 hours for the main story alone. With the new contents from the update, a complete playthrough in one weekend will therefore be hardly possible.
If the free weekend has convinced you, you can purchase the survival MMO from September 11 to September 22 with a 20% discount on Steam.
What happens after the update? In the livestream, the developers of Dune: Awakening revealed what they want to work on after the “Chapter 2” update. While they began working on “Chapter 2” before the release, the developers have now become aware of the problems in the endgame.
Production Director Ole Andreas declared the endgame in the livestream on YouTube as the focus topic for the developers. The next major “Chapter 3” update will mainly address innovations in the endgame.
It is rather unusual for a game to move its release date forward; usually, games are postponed. That the developers also give everyone the chance to play through their game, even if it requires a lot of time, is a good gesture for the players.
