With a new trailer, Destiny 2 prepares fans for the upcoming raid “Crown of Sorrow.” We examined the video closely and show you what to expect.
This trailer is about: Shortly after the start of the new Season of Opulence on June 4, the new raid “Crown of Sorrow” will kick off a few hours later – on June 5 at 1 AM our time.
In this context, Bungie has released a short video that gives a first impression of what guardians can expect in the new raid.
Here you can watch the trailer:
What’s in the trailer for the new raid of Season 7
The trailer confirms some previous assumptions but also reveals new details about “Crown of Sorrow.”
The setting: It has been speculated that the new raid will likely take place on the Leviathan, the massive ship of Emperor Calus, and this is now confirmed.
Not only does the trailer show the interior of the gigantic world-devouring ship, which is apparently haunted by the Hive, but the video description also provides further insight into the setting.
It states, among other things: “Deep inside the Leviathan, an Ascendant Relic of the Hive has driven one of Calus’ loyalists mad.”
The trailer itself mentions that the Leviathan has been infested by the Hive and that the Cabal Emperor Calus is once again calling upon the guardians to solve the problem. A victory is promised to be richly rewarded.
The enemies: Here, the Hive is clearly the enemy. Various units – from Thralls to Knights to massive Ogres – are seen in the trailer.
However, nothing is revealed yet about the final boss. Fans are still divided on this. While some suspect that they might face a Cabal leader or a Hive boss, some players have a different theory.
Calus might be breeding a Cabal-Hive hybrid based on the new lore snippets recently released by Bungie, which we might meet at the end of the new raid.
New gear: A lot of new gear is shown as well. Some items are likely to be the new raid sets and raid weapons.
Because the sets have never been seen before, and some weapons are covered with striking Hive runes, indicating a connection to the Hive raid.
However, there are also armor pieces in the clip that strongly resemble Iron Banner armor from the early years of Destiny 1 or might originate from the Menagerie.
Additionally, some fans hope for a new MG archetype. For instance, a machine gun is shown that fires slower than the currently common models in Destiny 2. Guardians speculate that this might be the first MG with an aggressive frame.
A new mechanic? What many fans have noticed: In the new trailer, guardians are shown dying or already dead (floating ghost). This is a novelty.
The fact that this aspect now significantly comes to the forefront in this trailer raises several questions. Is the raid so difficult that Bungie is hinting at this beforehand? Or is death possibly going to be a part of the new raid?
Some fans suspect that players might have to “sacrifice” team members to master certain passages of the raid. They point out that crystals can be seen in the trailer, which also occur in the strike Savathun’s Song. The Hive used these crystals to store the light of the guardians that was previously taken from them.
Some argue that this would make flawless raids impossible. However, if it happens within the mechanics of the raid, it could still count, say other guardians. Or the raid may not even allow for Flawless Runs.
