Earthen in World of Warcraft have spontaneously gained a new ability. This reminds of a very different MMORPG – namely SWTOR.
The Earthen of World of Warcraft are the latest allied race to join the Horde and Alliance with the completion of the campaign of The War Within. They are firmly integrated into the story of the new expansion, but eventually gain their “freedom” and then join the two factions.
However, there was a problem with the Earthen, as they lacked a property that every other character in the game has. For Blizzard, this was the reason to quickly create a new racial ability that is now active in the game – and some may remind one of the MMORPG SWTOR.
What was the problem? When the Earthen became playable and the first heroes began playing their stone dwarf, something problematic became apparent: Earthen cannot regenerate mana in the conventional way, as they can hardly consume any food.
A significant problem for all healer classes that rely on mana and want to “tank mana” in dungeons or raids. Because without mana, no healing spells can be cast, and waiting for natural mana regeneration takes a lot of time.
This is what Blizzard has done now: The Earthen were given a new racial ability via a hotfix that solved this problem. The ability “Quiet Contemplation” allows the character to regenerate all health points and all mana over the course of 20 seconds.
The ability has no cooldown, so it can be used whenever needed. However, like ordinary food from other races, the ability requires the character to remain seated in the meantime.
Why does this remind of SWTOR? In Star Wars: The Old Republic, each character class has its own ability to regenerate. This was a channeled ability where a character might meditate or check their equipment. Especially among the Sith, the “Wrath” ability was quite cool and ensured that even the “Down Times” between fights were a visual highlight.
After the Earthen had a quite difficult start due to the lack of proper regeneration, it seems to have improved now, and the new allied race meets all the requirements to become your next main character.
