Blizzard has released the latest hero from Overwatch. And it’s not a monkey – but it still stays within the animal kingdom. It’s a crazy hamster!
In recent days, the community has speculated a lot about what the next hero from Overwatch could be. Blizzard has repeatedly released small teasers on Twitter. First, there was only a street with posters visible, then a large mech rolled through the picture. The theories were obvious: That’s Hammond. A monkey who escaped from the Horizon moon colony.
But now the official Twitter channel of Overwatch has revealed the new hero. It’s a crazily giggling hamster in a mech!
A fan had predicted it. However, the release is not completely unexpected. On Reddit, the fan stmaurer had already speculated a day ago that Hammond is not a monkey at all, but rather a much smaller being – quite precisely a hamster. He deduced this from the conversations that scientists were having on the moon base. No one seemed to see Hammond as a threat, which is why he must have been a very small creature.
Furthermore, there were additional hints in “Hammond’s area” on the moon base. A bitten carrot and small bite marks everywhere suggested that it was more of a rodent than a primate.
His size (or his “smallness”) also explains why Hammond was able to sneak unnoticed through the ventilation ducts to trigger the tragedy of the Horizon moon base, where numerous scientists died.
This theory has proven to be correct. How exactly Blizzard intends to explain this hero and his grand escape remains to be seen.
In any case, Overwatch has now become a whole lot cuter – and crazier. Much crazier.
