In Pokémon GO, a new monster will debut in a few days. And it gets one of the rarest abilities in the game.
What kind of Pokémon is this? On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM, the “Steel and Scales” event will start in Pokémon GO. Here, Gramokles and its evolutions Duokles and Durengard will make their debut in Pokémon GO.
In the main series of Pokémon games, Durengard has a special ability: it possesses 2 forms (Shield and Blade form), which it can change in battle by using moves. And it seems that Pokémon GO will also grant it this ability.
Errors in mechanics reveal new information
How does the form change work? How exactly the form change will work has not yet been communicated by Niantic. However, there is a post in Niantic’s Help Center that refers to the form change. It states:
“The Blade form of Durengard can exceed the WP limits of the league after it has changed forms in Team Leader battles. This does not affect Trainer battles or the Battle League.”
This suggests that Durengard will also be able to change its form in Pokémon GO by using a move.
Which Pokémon have a form change? While there are now some monsters in Pokémon GO, such as Zamazenta and Zacian, that can change their forms, this ability is limited to almost all monsters for use outside of battles.
So far, there is only one Pokémon that can also change forms within a battle: Morpeko. If you use the charge move Aura Wheel with this monster, it will change between its Electric and Dark forms within a battle.
It is therefore expected that Durengard can also change between its Shield and Blade forms in battle by using a specific charge move.
