The card game Legends of Runeterra, which is played with characters from League of Legends, has quickly risen to the top on Twitch. The special thing: Only selected players can play.
What is Legends of Runeterra? This is an online card game that was presented along with five other new games on the 10th anniversary of League of Legends.
Already, some selected players, including many streamers, can try out the new card game. The hype around it is evidently large, as it rose to the top of the Twitch charts within hours and was viewed more often than Fortnite or World of Warcraft, at least for a short time.

So many people are watching: At its peak, the online card game reached over 230,000 viewers. The hourly average is 225,000 fans.
Even the day after the announcement, Legends of Runeterra was still successful. For a short time, it held the 1st place in the Twitch charts with more viewers than League of Legends itself or other games like Fortnite or Dota 2.
Who is streaming? Especially many Hearthstone streamers, such as Kripp, are live with this game. This is not surprising, as the new card game resembles Blizzard’s hit in many ways. You use champions and their abilities through cards, and you have to try to tactically overcome your opponents.
What does this mean for the game? Of course, it cannot yet be said that Legends of Runeterra will be a huge success, but the successful launch is a good sign.
It is particularly noteworthy that very few people can actually play the game, and one can only gain insight through streams. The interest in it seems to be large, as such viewer numbers would not materialize otherwise.
When can all players play? Until October 21 at 4 a.m., this preview patch is still running. Until then, selected players can test it.
A closed beta is planned for early 2020 on PC. Legends of Runeterra will also be released in 2020. However, there is no exact date for this.
In addition to PC, the game is also set to come to iOS and Android. Consoles are not planned for now.
